The linguistics aspect is really interesting. How much do general literacy, recorded audio, and video slow down language development? 1000 years ago English is closer to Beowulf than to Chaucer, so it would have to be a lot.
It depends on how they worded it. I wouldn't say a 3D tabletop w/ minis interface is "video game like" even if it does some of the math for you. If they just showed "look it looks like minis and terrain on your computer with some sfx" without mentioning "we will nickel and dime you to death...
I'm only getting my feet wet GMing, and we've been using D&D Beyond with Owlbear Rodeo for maps, but I did get subs for some of the other big players in case I want to try new systems. However I feel like with the dice in Owlbear Rodeo and a spreadsheet, I could probably be fine 90% of the...

How compatible are 3rd and 4th edition material? I will admit that I read all the fluff for a bunch of the books (especially Aliens, Alternate Earths 1&2, and some of the licensed ones) without knowing the actual ruleset.
Ah, thanks for that!
I do like my rules Cyclopedia. Probably easier than trying to dig through BECMI individually. (note: I've never tried to run a BECMI campaign but I am thinking of it)
"Androids" was originally used by Philip K. Dick to refer to biological humanoid constructs rather than mechanical ones. Then again, "Robots" was originally used by Čapek for pseudo organic humanoid constructs and not mechanical ones, too.
