D&D 5E The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

Here is my breakout of skills Actually, I prefer the way playtest 1 had it, assign an ability score to a skill at the time of use. Animal Handling Charisma Bluff Charisma Climb Dexterity or Strength Diplomacy Charisma or Appearance Find and Remove Traps Find: Perception, Remove: Dexterity...

D&D 5E The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

And I disagree with that, total darkness or blindness should reduce Perception. If it is permanent then so is the penalty. A thief with a missing hand is great with tasks that require one hand, otherwise severe loss to dex for climb as an example. So we disagree - nothing wrong with that...

D&D 5E The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

The problem I have with wisdom and perception under the same stat is that they are too far apart for one title. A blind monk that can't taste or smell can have 18 Wisdom (willpower, intuition), would you say he has an 18 perception. Plus it causes havoc with stereotype thieves, low willpower...

D&D 5E The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

I know about Comeliness, I had characters before the Dragon Mag article - let alone Unearthed Arcana. And yes it was a dump stat in many ways, but that was the fault of the designers not the players. I have my 5e campaign running with 8 stats and this is how I separated Charisma and Appearance...

D&D 5E The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

1st Ed Wisdom: Wisdom is a composite term for the character’s enlightenment, judgement, wile, will power, and (to a certain extent) intuitiveness. Charismo: Charisma is the measure of the character's combined physical attractiveness, persuasiveness, and personal magnetism. 5th Ed. Wisdom: Wisdom...

    D&D 5E Wights and wraiths

I like the "damage Max Hit points" aspect of it though. So much so that I made critical hits the same way (creatures deal normal damage but to max HP, characters do max + normal - since most opponents don't survive the battle). But, I have max hit points heal slowly, unless healed by certain...

    Advantage and Disadvantage stacking

But over multiple rolls they flatten out into the percentages above. If it says you should get an 18.5 on 20 sided die, it just means half the time it is 18 and half 19. Percentages still work.

    Advantage and Disadvantage stacking

I know this is an old thread, but this really struck me as a mechanic of advantage/disadvantage. I too am concerned with over use of adv/dis, but stacking them seems like a winner. Instead of saying you have advantage, say you gain one advantage die or you gain 1 disadvantage die. We add up...

Do you like spell and effect durations?

TL;DR (most of it) I think durations could mostly be handled by triggers until you take short rest until you make an attack until you take damage until you are bloodied (assuming that mechanic carries forward) until you take an extended rest until a remove curse is cast on you until Dispel...

D&D 5E D&D Next - Our changes to extend play

Ya, the idea was to not slow combat down with a second roll for the off-hand weapon, so 1 roll but more damage. As you get better - even more damage.

D&D 5E D&D Next - Our changes to extend play

This is pobably all for a while, this fills in what my group needs. I have extended the spell progression for clerics and wizards to 20th, but don't want to try to format it for here :) we are just having fun with this, we have no knowledge of what WotC plans, and we know the above will change...

D&D 5E D&D Next - Our changes to extend play

Our group never realized how much 4e felt non-D&D until we played the playtest. So much so we decide to throw out our 4e Campaign and play the playtest rules beyond the Caves of Chaos. In order to do so, some gaps would have to be filled. So here is our attemps to add to 5e. Please feel...

    Base measurement in DDN

uh, I stand a little over 6 feet, so a 5 foot cube would make me headless. So I think medium sized humaniods would be at least 2 cubes high regardless.

    D&D 5E Alternative crit chart for 5e

I'd say don't worry about location, just have effect. 13 = x2 damage, immobile for 1 round 14,15 = x2 damage, -2 to melee attacks for 1 round ... 20 = x2 damage, paralyzed for 1 round This way anatomy is not a concern, and what was actually damaged can be role played.

    Base measurement in DDN

Last night I ran a 5e session with 3 foot squares. It went very well - after the initial shock of how much distance characters and creatures can cover in a round. The battles were as dynamic as before, burning hands now covers 5 squares instead of 3 - which actually worked well. I simply...
