I was surprised to read the announcement, but have become quite intrigued. Whilst PF was never of interest to me as I didn't care for the system, I've enjoyed Savage Worlds for the last ten years, and I like to see what it can do with fantasy.
Of course, SW already has some very good fantasy...
I shall read this with interest. On first scan, I like the love for the buckler, and the byrnie/hauberk differentiation.
How do you feel about poll-axes and godentags?
I'd love to see Alternity again. There is a a new game that uses the name, but I found that the game play was noticeably different. They have some commonalities, but only some.

I'm not sure this one will quite qualify*, but Chivalry and Sorcery 5th Edition, by Britannia Games Design.
*The print book won't be available until February, but the pdf came out just before Christmas.
For free-range fantasy I'd recommend, depending on your tastes, EN Publishing's own O.L.D, Pinnacle's Savage Worlds or, if your tastes run to something lighter/more story-gamish, Barbarians of Lemuria or its generic counterpart Everywhen, by Filigree Forge.
EDIT: If you'd prefer a game closer...
