Wow ... the responses have included ALOT of surprises (and to be honest, a bunch I don't even recognize!).
When I get the time in the next day or so, I'm going to compile the entire list and perhaps we can have a "Survivor" type of contest to vote who we think would be the penultimate...
If you were to assemble a D&D party/group/mercenary company made up of famous characters from fantasy / sword & sorcery fiction, who would you consider?
My tentative list (since I'm nowhere near my bookcases) would include:
Conan (Barbarian)
Kane (Warrior)
Kull (Warrior)
Gandalf (Wizard)...
Oh sorry! My bad ... it's not the actual setting I'm concerned about ... that I can adapt in my sleep - it's the game mechanics like the Social Relations, Gifts and Bindings, the Book of Dooms / LifePath, and the Magic system that I'm curious about.
I'm wondering if anyone has used the Artesia RPG in 3.5 Ed. D&D?
If so, what did you do and how did it work out?
I'm a huge fan of the book (not so much the Fuzion system) and would like to adapt the setting (and a few of the new ideas like the Book of Dooms / LifePath) to my 3.5 D&D game ...
Well ... I'm kinda looking for actual stats, not "how to" stat them out ... I just don't have the time (nor the knowledge of the characters) to do it properly. I appreciate your input though! Thanks!
The Conan stats seem pretty good, as do the Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser ones ... but I still...
Mind Flayers ... their lawfulness would make them strict jailers, and their mental powers would allow them complete control of virtually everyone that comes and goes from the stockades.
I've managed to find some nice stats for Conan, but I'm wondering if anyone has created 3.5 stats for the other fantasy heroes like Elric (Moorcock), Kane (Wagner), Kull (Howard), Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser (Leiber) and others?
Well, our group is 35 yrs and up, with me being the oldest at 40 yrs and I realize that doesn't translate to maturity level / intelligence / sophistication ... but I'd like to think that my players' primary goal is to have intelligent fun and would indeed take into account all the valid points...
Well, that would be interesting ... but as I've said, this is going to be a secondary campaign that will be run only when the main campaign gets put on hold due to player absences ... having said that, I'm reluctant to put a bunch of extra work into it if I don't have to. (thus the ready-to-run...
I like the idea of having a conversation about what is evil, and what I'll allow ... Getting that on the table before hand is a great plan!
I will NOT allow any party in-fighting, so I'm thinking that I make them all mercenaries devoted to a single, evil entity (brotherhood / god / cult / demon...
First, a little background ... I've been playing D&D since 1979, and DMing since the late 80's and during that time I have never played in nor run an "evil" campaign.
I recently started up a new gaming group (myself and 6 players, most of which are old friends / former co-workers) to play in my...
