    The Cost of a House

Does anyone know if there is a price list for things like houses, manors mansions, etc for 4th edition anywhere? In particular, I'm looking for the price of a large manor house.

What's the big deal with "feat taxes?"

To me, it's not really fun to feel like I have to take these bland, boring feats that are pretty much superior to all others, yet dull and uninteresting. It's a mechanically poor choice to not take an expertise feat. Nothing else really compares. My groups solution is simple -- everyone gets...

    D&D and the magic economy

I tend to just ignore the broken economy, but if you want to run low magic you'll probably either need to look into the inherent bonuses in DMG2 or adjust the monsters (I'd do the former), because the math of 4th edition assumes that the magic items are there. One other thing to consider that...

    Keep on Shadowfell...how long?

KotS was the first module we ran when we started 4th edition. I was DMing it with only two PCs (warlock and warlord) plus the halfling rogue from the pre-gen section; they were later joined by a fighter NPC in the jail area. I'll echo what everyone else is saying: ditch a lot of the...

Ideas for Using Physical Money in Game.

We did this in our Deadlands game -- except that it involved buying a monopoly game and raiding it for the fake money inside. It worked great. One thing that we did to take care of really small transactions was give the PCs a pool of "change." At character creation you'd give back 10 dollars...

    Help Please, newish DM

Exceeding the treasure limit by a few hundred gold in one instance (especially since said gear is probably going to be used for simple survival and not buying magic items) isn't going to unbalance anything. If the PCs do something smart, it's not going to hurt anything to toss them a little...

    Help Please, newish DM

I get the impression that a lot of people seem to think that wanting to take items of value from the town is somehow "wrong," like these players are being powergamers or excessively greedy. I might actually agree if it weren't a Dark Sun game, but the world is so squalid that I think that...

    Enemy Turns ?

Unless something has been added to 4e about this that I don't know about, it's entirely up to the DM. If there are orcs and goblins, you might roll one initiative for the orcs and one for the goblins because it would be a pain to keep track of initiative for 6 orcs and 8 goblins. On the other...

4th ed artificer... like it or hate it?

There's one in the game I'm running. I think it's okay, but it doesn't strongly appeal to me. It has a lot of summoning type stuff, so if you already have a large group you may not want to have the extra creatures on the field. I don't really have any issues with it, though.

Campaign Choices You've Made On Races

I'll freely admit that part of my stance comes from the fact that I just don't like the idea of adding dozens of races to the world as a personal preference. It creates a lot of questions. Where have they been all this time? Why are they in the world? I don't like to handwave or gloss over...

Campaign Choices You've Made On Races

I am generally not inclined to include a wide variety of races. Typically, I'll define the playable races in the beginning and short of some very unusual circumstances not allow anything else. I don't like running "kitchen sink" worlds where anything that WotC produces gets tossed in. Adding...

Not happy with Wizard's lack of fluff.

*shrug* It honestly seems strange to me (also, fyi, violence is harmless for neither kids or adults -- just sayin'). I've never really understood the violence is okay but sex isn't thing -- culturally, we're pretty immature whenever it comes to the latter and that's probably the major reason...

Not happy with Wizard's lack of fluff.

What a screwed up world we live in...where hacking people to bits is okay for kids, but something that is usually harmless and fun is isn't. Just a random thought. That said, I don't like it when books get too specific. I don't even like a lot of the content WotC produces, fluff or otherwise...

Help me make WotC adventures better.

I'll echo what others are saying and say that WotC modules (or at least KotS and Pyramid) are overloaded with grindy, boring combat encounters. In both cases I had to remove a good number of useless fights, and in Pyramid I also made most of the various NPCs there more open to negotiation and...
