I almost ran this game for my group, but decided to do FASERIP instead, because my group has been solely playing 5E they had zero imagination for creating a super hero so went with Marvel superheroes advanced since it has charts to randomly roll characters.

They just need a reinforced area and cast tidal wave into it as needed

We had a gamemaster ban humans, the result everybody chose different races. Just let everyone know before characters are thought about what are the options and as long as everyone is reasonable it will work. D&D is very resilient.

If a creature's AC is equal to the attack roll it takes 1/2 damage

I changed the hut to have 100 hp and have an AC equal to the spell save of the caster. Although I haven't seen this in action yet

make sure you spend as many points on your attributes as you can

The one I saw played like a fighter with a d6 hit die. They did o.k. until they gained the ire of the foe then they spent the rest of the battle making death saves. (or trying to make death saves) AoE's are their doom

I watched the first season, it was interesting but all the characters are unlikeable.

If the GM says it is a troll then they are the ones metagaming, because the statement means they think the players should know what the creature is.

I would rather have a book that made spellcasting more like the card game with mana than just D&D spell slot casting

Well the Beadle and Grimm platinum edition is sold out so I assume that it sold good enough.
