Barbarian, Warlock or Sorcerer and some form of shaman(spiritualistic/atavistic druid) as a core for Sword and Sorcery settings. For races you could take Half-Giants, Gnolls, Yuan-Ti to push a more feral, wild feeling. Elves get eaten, humans are just menials. Couldn't do without rogues, though...

I can't relate to any of the choices. I'd just think about what impact this would have on my character and his personality. It is an opportunity to give the character more depth but I wouldn't call it a gift.

I'd love to see a modern take on Dark Sun, tbh, which means it shouldn't be an exact rehash of the old source material. I love the subgenre, as it's close to my actual favourite, which would be conan-esque sword&sorcery.

My main gripe with this will probably be that Planescape already got some books and won't profit from the lessons WotC learned from this release.

Is that so? I guess I'm not up-to-date anymore. I can't begrudge companies to try to make it as hard as possible that their products are shared. Just in principle, even if I don't like the company in question. It's also not an excuse that you can get it anyway.

Probably a good decision as I thought the current starter is a bit too cozy compared to the grittier reality of the actual game. Not that the old starter is bad but I never thought it is a good fit.

If you want to advertise your new class on Beyond just do it. Also 15$ for a couple of pages is really steep. I'd rather cook something up myself or look if I can find other third party content which isn't trying to get my money quite so shamelessly.
