one the myth of the great wall visible from orbit. It isn't. Try pull ing weather sat photos and finding it.

You mean like this one from NASA?

FWIW the Great Wall is virtually undetectable to the naked eye from low earth orbit.

The pic posted by Greatwyrm is a greater resolution than the naked eye is capable of.

Secondly there are many man made objects that are visible from LOE, the great wall just barely qualifies as one of them.

If you look hard enough you can find high resolution satelite pics of your house, but that doesn't mean that you can see it from the space shuttle.

The Great Wall of China, the only man-made structure visible from orbit...

Emphasis added.

The Hoover Dam would probably disagree. Or the Empire State Building. Or any of a million other man-made structures that have been photographed from space.

I stand corrected on some points. However, we (myself included) are getting away from the idea that very large and difficult structures are possible with very low levels of technology. I may have not chosen the best examples when trying to illustrate this.

All I'm trying to say is plenty of ridiculously large and intracate things have been built with very primitive techniques. A super-large, flying, castle-thing is perfectly within the realm of possibility with medievel era tech, especially when you factor large amounts of magic into the construction.

"especially when you factor large amounts of magic into the construction"

Sorry, this is a cop out. You might a well write

"especially when you factor large amounts of scienceinto the construction."

The real key as to whether the "feel" of medieval tech is broken is the element of mass production that accompanies it. It is the advent of mass production techniques that differentiate the Industrial era from the agricultural.

Just my 3c (inflation an all)

Having not seen the preview yet, what about it leads you to think there is mass production of an industrial sort?

Instead of claiming WotC are a bunch of cop-outs, you could look into the possibility that you misinterpreted something that others of us thought was quite clear.

Hi all! :)

Is the preview in Dragon Magazine the same as the one posted at Gaming Report?

Apologies if someone asked this before, I scanned the posts, and didn't see it mentioned.

IMO, the preview in Dragon wasn't nearly as good as the GenCon handout (thanks to diaglo for bringing one back for me). Still to soon to judge, and not enough info.

My first overall impression is that it looks like a well-developed, high magic fantasy world with a lot of potentially interesting elements, but for some reason it doesn't feel D&D to me. Other d20, sure, but not D&D -- kind of like EQ and Wheel of Time are d20 but not really the D&D feel. But it's really too soon to judge.
