And I guess I've totally failed to communicate my concern.

Never mind; please pretend I never asked.

Why? If I've misunderstood you, there's nothing wrong with clarifying your position.

I see that there is no solution to this problem that WOTC/Hasbro brought to D20 just because of one book or two.The company should know that D20 is not Microsoft Windows it is for everyone who wants to create a games under that system. If they feel that D20 should be set in a there own personal standers then they should never make Forgotten Realms products, because it does not set to there standers of the Dark Elf Race issue.

Chris's point is that your OpenDie logo might become the Black Dog Games of the D20 World. He may not wish to have his products associated with such a product identity. Many other publishers will also not be comfortable with that either.

The question remains, do you want OpenDie to become the Black Dog Games of the D20 World? Fine, that might work. However, it will discourage people who are producing less edgy or "adult" work from using the logo, which will defeat the entire purpose of having an "open" OpenDie logo.

He has a very valid point, and I'm not sure what you can do about it, short of creating a separate logo that people producing mature or edgy products are encouraged to use.

Still waiting on a response on this question. What are the terms for a publisher to actually USE the logo?

Unfortunately, not yet finalized.

The FGA had a poor tactical decision months ago about FGA, and we wound up spending energy on a superfluous project. The recent controversy has given us a new start, though, and we're going to take this as far as it goes--at the least, enough for Prometheus and OpenDie to be used by anyone.

We've renamed the free20 Yahoogroup to FGA-Prometheus ; you can join either at the website http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FGA-Prometheus/ or by sending an e-mail to FGA-Prometheus-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

I will crop a sample of the logo here later tonight, and start a discussion on draft license terms after that.

FWIW, we're thinking of making the Prometheus license simliar but distinct from the d20STL--same derivation from a file we'll host somewhere, and same "don't redefine these terms"--but we'll allow for more variation, copy the OGL's perpetual use clause, and probaby have a "indicate what you've changed" rule.

No. Though, if there was a desire for such a logo, the FGA would happily host and/or create one.

I had an off-messageboard discussion with Chris last night about this. I can go into more detail with possible answers later.

Here they are.

Here are the OpenDie and Prometheus logos.

Hmmm... All MY d6's have opposite sides that equal 7.
Yeah, I emailed a comment about that to the FGA the other day as well. If I were a publisher, I wouldn't want to put that logo on my product in its current form. Make it correct, pretty it up a bit, and I'd happily put it on there.
