Possess other creatures, killing their minds and claiming the bodies.
Unlock new evolutionary abilities as they gain Hit Dice.
Progress with character levels.

I just added it to my favorite templates in the creature forum here. I like it- a bit of Stargate Goa'uld with some Zerg and Eight-Legged Freaks. I find it much more useful and interesting than the parasite in Lords of Madness.

Thank you for the feedback! I was nervous what people would think about this alternative type of template, so I appreciate you posting your comment.

Now what can I do to bribe you to leave a review on RPGNow? :)

An answer- how do they parasitize elementals? Or is that missing from page 7?

I have to figure out how to describe it without making movie and tv references and then I will post a comment at rpgnow. 5 stars without a doubt.

I originally had elementals on the list, but then I started thinking about elementally-imbued parasites. It'll be a slight tangent from the format of the parasite's regular abilties.

There's a few other ideas such as this that began popping up as the book was being finalized that I'm going to put up on the website instead as web enhancements.

Thanks for the "bribe."

I have been thinking of what creatures work well as both hosts and enemies. Dragons have one of the worst positions- the older ones are pretty much immune to the parasites, but the young are not. The elders would have to find somewhere that the parasites can't travel to (off plane maybe).

The ethergaunts, aboleths, illithids, doppelgangers and similar creatures would have a difficult time battling the terrors. The former group has mystical power going for them, but the terrors have the ability to control just about any living thing (without the magical abilities of the host, however) and appear in large numbers.

And then there is the further customization by adding more templates. Though, instead of making each individual terror unique, I think coming up with up to 40 or so castes would be better for the DM.

Aw crap. You might want to leave a comment to my comment since I got one rather important thing wrong. I misread they gained one special ability per level (or HD) not every 4th.

Sorry about that.
