I may have a few ideas for new arthropod affinities, but it may be a week or so before I can get them to you. We shall see.

I have been thinking about this and I think a good way of expanding them is adding some non-arthropod affinities. You mention elementals as potential hosts- I don't see how that is even possible for a material being, unless they have an elemental affinity that converts them into siad element. The downside is the parasite can not do this until at least level 4 and thus this keeps them from invading elemental planes.

There is also the Zerg-like method of absorbing abilities from hosts or food. Say a specific hive has a member infest a rust monster and takes it back to the hive for consumption. The queen can tell her offspring to "learn" the chemical that allows rust monsters to corrode metals and possibly take neurishment from the rust. Beast Builder is a great OGC resource for this as it has a lot of special attacks and qualities.
