So what goodness did you GIVE for Christmas?

Hearing what everybody got was awesome, and I'm still giggling over my swag (Stephan Lynch CD in the player now!).

But what were some of the things you're really pleased about giving this year?

My dad got coco mix and coffee. I work at a coffee house, so it was easy, but he loves Columbian coffee.
I found the book of photos on old Detroit buildings by chance, but my brother loves it.
My other brother likes his power squid. (like a power strip, but shaped like a squid)
The book on altering photographs turned out to be just what my brother's girlfriend needs. It was a good book year.
I found nice trinkets for most of my friends, and all the others are getting a jar of homemade chocolate coffee ganache.

But the best thing I gave this year was to my mom. While cleaning out my uncle's house (he died last spring) I found a painting that my great-grandmother did forever ago. She wasn't a professional, but she painted a lot, and there are paintings of hers everywhere. We even found one of some lilacs in the basement that's over a hundred years old. Anyhoo, I found this small picture of some sheep in the old office hutch, and thought "there is no way anyone's seen this in decades, if they've ever seen it at all." So I hid it away and put it in a frame. Best present I gave this year.

This wasn't my best year as a giver- too much drama. Katrina uprooted my entire family from New Orleans...to my current city (D/FW)!

However, I did give my Dad, an afficionado of mystery novels, the Complete Annotated Sherlock Holmes collection. He can barely lift it, its so huge.

My Mom, who owns Border Collies, also collects BC memoribilia. This year, I gave her a hand-embroidered Christmas stocking, socks, baseball cap and pen...all with Border Collie motifs on them.

They both went nuts!

My girlfriend is a huge My Little Pony fan/collector the same way I collect superhero action figures. For those not in the pony know, in 2003 they re-started the Pony line with a brand new set. A birthday or two ago I bought her two original Ponies Mint-on-Card. She had resisted buying any ponies, but I eventually bought her one randomly earlier this year, and reignited the pony passion.

I had already bought 12 new ponies for her, when I stumbled across an Ebay lot that was poorly titled. It had the first 3 playsets of the post-2003, and 44 ponies from 2003-2004 including the five rarest exclusive ponies (the Target 2003 Christmas ponies and the first two mail-in ponies) plus a few pony-related extras (a clock, a book, etc) I got the entire set for less than the 5 rare ponies would have gone for if they were listed individually.

I did a "12 days of Christmas" bit, giving her a pony every day leading up to XMas, then let her open some ponies on Christmas Eve. Then after she went to sleep, I laid out the Pony play mat, setup the castle and the the two little playsets, and put the rest of the pony army all around one of those little light-up trees. Then I turned off all the lights except for the little tree, sat her down eyes-closed in front of Pony World, and then made the castle play the MLP theme song and flash its lights.

Sure, anyone can make a 6-year old get all excited and giddy like a 6-year old, but its much more fun to get an adult to react that way.

My 11-year old nephew is a big fan of the Colorado Avalanche. He told his mom that he wanted a jersey for Chirstmas, but she told him she wasn't spending that much money "on a shirt". A little bit of eBay shopping and I'm now the favorite uncle. ;)

Wow, cool finds!

I gave my dad a George Best memories DVD, which I think he liked. My brother got a Worms Amagedon game, which I know he really liked :). My littlest sister got a lava lamp; she likes anything shiny.

You are awesome! Not that I like Ponies, but I doubt you do either. Which makes you even the more-er awesome.

I gave my friend and his girlfriend a book each: To him I gave this, but to her, this.

It certainly blew them away.

My dad I gave the first volume of Sin City as he really loved the movie. For my mum (which is always the hardest to get for) I got some crime story and my stepfather got two DVDs: Rebel Without a Cause and The Untouchables.

My older, younger brother got Superman: TAS vol. 1 on DVD while my younger, younger brother got my old CD walkman (which I've abandoned for an iPod. Actually, my original plan was to have it the other way around, but when the older one got a brand new CD walkman from someone else, I quietly swapped the tags on the gifts.

To another friend I gave a big book on secret societies (because he loves that kinda thing) and to the third I gave Essential Fantastic Four vol. 2 because he has this thing for Dr. Doom. My cousin got ten carefully picked burned CDs.

Also, for my christmas cards this year, I sent this picture of myself to all my other friends and the occasional family:

To much joy of everyone (that I've heard from).

To use a Hockey-ism, stevelabny:

"He shoots- HE SCORES!"

That's awesome!

Viking Bastard...its no wonder your people conquered the northern Eurasian continent... That took some serious...attitude.

I got my mom and dad a bunch of alcoholic chocolates, one older sister some sorta girly bathwash thing she picked out, my other older sister some gass money, two of my younger sisters gift certificates to Claire's, my other younger sister a big ol' knife, my two younger brothers Dawn of War, and one of 'em the Serpentwar Saga (picked up all three for $1.50).

I got my best friend a big knife, and her and her parents some alcoholic chocolates. I got my oldest friend a slow cooker 'cause he's getting married. Got the friend who gave me a yellow sign amulet a Narnia poster, got the friend who gave me an...explicit keychain a big ol' plastic Bible keychain that sings "Hallelujah!" really loud. Got some kids I know a bunch of Nerf guns. Got a little shopping left to do, for friends from college I won't see 'till early January

I got my sister 19 pairs of earrings, because she just got her ears pierced.

I got my boyfriend Knights of the Old Republic II, all 6 collectible Burger King Star Wars Watches, a lightsabre, and a framed photo of him with his dad and sister.

I got my grandmother a bookshelf for her dollhouse.

I got my cousin a shirt that says "Support Local Music: Sleep With a Musician."

My parents told me not to get them anything this year, because I've been in a bit of a financial bind. So they got each other presents from my sister and I.
