"Heh. Forgive an old pessimist. The last adventurer that passed through our village, the father of Sina, was killed by worgs while travelling. We didn't know what happened for a long time, until one of those bastard priests from Lathirn informed us. We'll give whatever assistance may prove necessary, from what little silver and gold my group managed to hide away to finance freeing the villagers, to whoever volunteers to accompany you."

Opale looks a Katerine for a moment. "So, what is your plan?"
Katherine smiles. "Basicly the same as it was this morning to be honest... was it only this morning, it feels like months... We follow the wilderness team back to Eskeron's camp and deal with him directly. Jack can scout ahead and if there are gaurds Planus may be able to draw a group to one side of the camp where he, I and the townsfolk can keep them busy, maybe even eliminate them. Our main force can come in from the other side and attack Eskeron directly, hopefully with the aid of some silvered weapons in case our guesses of his deciet are correct. Whoever overcomes their foes first will join the other group to mop up." She tries to sound matter of fact, as if the group has launched many such successful attacks.

ooc: melting down silverware to use on weapons is different from applying silversheen. could I have a response from either KO or orsal? or should I ask in GD?

OOC: KO should give the final verdict, but as a part-time judge... I'd use costs based on applying alchemical silver, and then use a Craft (weaponsmithing) or Craft (alchemy) check as normal to determine the time required to silver-plate weapons.

Silver, Alchemical: A complex process involving metallurgy and alchemy can bond silver to a weapon made of steel so that it bypasses the damage reduction of creatures such as lycanthropes.

On a successful attack with a silvered weapon, the wielder takes a –1 penalty on the damage roll (with the usual minimum of 1 point of damage). The alchemical silvering process can’t be applied to nonmetal items, and it doesn’t work on rare metals such as adamantine, cold iron, and mithral.

Alchemical silver has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 8.

Type of Alchemical Silver Item... Item Cost Modifier
Ammunition... +2 gp
Light weapon... +20 gp
One-handed weapon, or one head of a double weapon... +90 gp
Two-handed weapon, or both heads of a double weapon... +180 gp

Recap:

It has been a few hours since the group has saved the village from the fiery end that the kobolds - or at least a group of kobolds - had planned for it. After a drop into the kobold tunnels below, the group found evidence that the kobolds are not as united as one might think. Apparently, they are divided into three groups - the Crusaders, the obvious enemy. The Indifferent, who may or may not be the largest group of kobolds, and, disturbingly, the Integrators, who seem to want to life in peace with the humans. Also, they found a shrine, said to be dedicated to the World Scale. Thanyvan went to examine it.
From other gathered evidence, the party concluded that Eskaron most likely is not a dragon, but a strange werebeast. A group of Feldeners indicated that Eskaron is preparing to get his claws on that village as well. With a well-placed speech, Katherine and Planus managed to obtain the aid of many villagers, whatever form that may take in the end. One of these aids was the grant of silver to coat the group's weapons with, a task that is currently underway.

Thanyvan returns from the tunnels, visibly disturbed. "I... didn't expect that... I think it's best if I remain here for a while."

Quarion looks unsettled. Garma's hair is bristling, low growls are coming from the wolf. Quietly, the druidic elf speaks. "If, as you suggest, the large wolves are wolves and nothing more, we should allow nature to take her course. But we know that something unnatural lives in this area, be it a dragon or a werebeast. Regardless, it is an abomination against Life, and must be destroyed. I for one would like to see these 'wolves' for myself, so that I might use my woodland experience in identifying such creatures. Will you allow me that?"

If the group decides they want a second opinion, Quarion and Garma will scout to the dogs/wolves.

From Jack's description, you get the feeling that the wolves are, in fact, not normal wolves.
You suspect they are worgs, evil and somewhat intelligent wolf-like creatures. They're sometimes in league with goblins, but also act alone.

"You might be right... thinking of it, it's not the kind of wolves to act like that, more Worg, and the physical description too fit pretty well the Worg. I know the goblins use it as riding creature, but I've enver heard of kobold doing the same. Anyway, I still think it is not our role to take care of them. The dogs will just miss a meal, more if they are too dumb and insist to have that meal. Eskaron won't wait for us to start and make exemple out of humans because of what happen yesterday. If some absolutly want to do somethnig, we might looks after, but we will need all our strength for Eskaron, just in case he really is a dragon."

The guard, a kobold disguised to look a bit like a gnome hermit on first glance, carries little of worth but a kobold sized shortsword and a few copper pieces (10). The tunnel, as a break from the other kobold tunnels, turns dirty. Very dirty, in fact, and you can clearly smell the presence of animals up ahead, and everyone hears the roars by now. It takes a while until you see the tunnel widen into a large hall, with some regions barred off. In the middle, ten kobolds are at work cutting up deer into small bits. By chance, one of the kobolds looks back, and shouts something. Another murmurs something that is propably a curse, with a glance at the other one. You cannot yet see the roaring creature(s).

"Intruders!"

Four of the kobolds drop their blades (1, 3, 5 and 10), and back away towards the cage. They seem to want to stay out of the fight. Two rush forward along the cage, and begin to what sounds like unlocking, and hiss a command at the creatures inside.

The elf looks to Opale, obviously hoping for some kind of signal to fire. Receiving nothing of the sort, he curses again. Slowly his aim inches towards the ground. The string is still taut. The group barges into the first room again, where a procession of 10 kobolds stands. Despite apparantly knowing that something would come, they appear almost freezingly slow. Garma rushes at kobold 8, but his bite does not scratch its scales. Quarion successfully strikes Kobold 7 with his arrow, dealing 2 damage. Kobold 2 begins to cast a spell, but Opale manages to catch him with her crossbow bolt, lodging itself firmly into the caster's shoulder. Planus, much to everyone's surprise, also manages to hit the caster into the chest, but the kobold stubbornly remains standing. Kobold 4 rushes at Veras-Re, and forcefully strikes him for 2 damage. Kobold 5 unsuccessfully tries to retaliate for being attacked. The remaining hostile kobolds, with the exception of 9, set up flanking positions for their allies, though they all miss on their attacks. 9 ducks behind the northern column.

Quarion and his animal companion continue doing what they love doing: killing kobolds. In the heat of the battle, Quarion can't tell if his arrow hit his target. Garma, however, successfully rips into his victim's scaly flesh. With a vicious shake of his head, Garma attempts to yank the creature down to the ground. Rather than trip the kobold, the piece of leg that Garma caught in his teeth simply rips apart from the bone. Garma tosses the bloody body bits aside and resumes his gnashing.

Previously:

Jack charges kobold 4 (I guess you misread the number), but misses the nimble beast. Katherine steps up to kobold 5, attempting to disarm him, and snatches his spear away from him. Hastily, it moves away from Rika and draws a tiny dagger to not be totally defenseless. >Kobold 10 moves to a different position<

New round:
Jack - 18
Villagers - 17
Veras-Re - 14
Rika - 13
Farid - 10
Katherine - 4
Kobolds, Opale, Planus, Garma, Quarion

(I assume Jack takes a 5 foot step to provide both Veras-Re and Farid with a flanking bonus.) Jack quickly hops back a bit, and skewers Kobold 6, who drops to the ground. The first two villagers rush into the room, one trying to strike kobold 4, but he stumbles half-way, and only strikes thin air. Veras-Re easily slams the kobold he is facing, but despite the solid blow, the kobold remains standing. Rika turns her attention to the new challenger, and easily downs him. Then she follows the other kobold. Farid slashes into his opponent, but he only sneers despite his wounds. Katherine continues along her path, and she easily disarms kobold 7.

Kobold 2 rushes into the cover the center column provides, and begins casting a new spell. Surprisingly, Opale does manage to hit him despite the cover, but Planus shot just circles around the column. Garma rips down one of the kobolds surrounding him, but Quarion misses his shot. Kobold 3 takes a step away from Farid, retrieves a potion, and drinks it. Some of his wounds visibly close. Kobold 4 takes a quick look at the villager next to him, and, then strikes him twice, so that the villager drops unconcious. Kobold 5 desperately slashes at Rika, but she easily dodges that attack. Deprived of his weapon, Kobold 7 foolishly tries to grapple Garma, but the wolf almost bites his hand off (2 damage, Kobold 7 is staggered). Kobold 9 moves towards Planus, but it fails to hit hit.

Jack starts at the kobold between him and Veras-Re, and before he knows what happened, a bloody heap lies before him.
The second villager rushes up to kobold 5, and knocks him out. Two more villagers storm the scene, but cannot yet contribute meaningfully to the battle (Alina, while trying to aid Planus, mumbles something about an aura of misfortune the elf must be radiating).
<Veras-Re may change his actions>
Rika advances towards kobold 3, but fails to hit him, as does Farid. Katherine (deprived an armed target in reach) makes haste towards the downed villager instead.

Once more, the kobold sorcerer begins a casting, and this time, Opale does not hit. Quarion does that for her, though. Kobold 3, sensing that being up against two opponents is not good, takes a quick evaluating glance, and must have decided that Farid is the easier target of the two, as he makes a swift step away from Rika. In fact, the kobold's light hammer does hit for 2 damage. Planus "One-Hit Wonder" doesn't manage to replicate his single hit. Garma lashes out at the kobold next to him, but his jaws don't quite connect. That kobold starts to weave away from the big wolf, and in a curve, seems to be running towards the inactive kobold 1. Veras-Re advances and strikes at kobold 9 (since kobold 1 is presumably an integrator, based on his reaction), dealing 3 damage.
Rika charges at kobold 7, finally downing that kobold as well. Opale adjusts a bit, and takes a shot at kobold 9, which also brings down that kobold.

Farid and Veras-Re position themselves (Jdvn - I9 would be in front of you. Presumably you meant I-11, behind you. Jack (NPC'd) lunges forward, piercing through the kobold directly in front of him as if it were air. Rika positions herself on the other side of the room.

Two of the kobolds approach Farid and Veras-Re, who fail in dropping them (readied action from Veras-Re and Farid). However, their assailants don't fare much better, as the dwarves manage to dodge out of the way. Kobold 2, 5, and 6 sling stones at Jack, but all miss. Kobold 10 tries to counter-attack Garma, but also misses. 13 and 16 advance towards Rika, and surprisingly, 16 manages to scratch Rika (1 damage), but not before she drops 13. Kobold 9 tries to pierce Jack, but without success. The kobolds 8, 11, 12 and 15 try to sling stones at Garma and Rika, and 12 hits Rika in the face (3 damage), while 15 manages to hit Garma on the snout (3 damage). 14 drops his weapon, and moves into the corner.

Farid twirls his urgosh, trying to slice the kobolds in front of him, then trying to stab... this time, his attacks are more solid.

ooc: Yes, I did mean I-11! :heh: Also, I forgot to subtract 1 damage for silver again. :uhoh: I'll remember now.

Planus moves to 2 squares behind Garma (to get within 30 ft of kobold 12) and fires at kobold 12. He continues his miraculous streak of terrible shots.

OOC: bow shot (1d20+7=8, 1d8+3=11) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=437072) I think I may need a new diety.

Opales moves foward. She knows she is too far for the moment to cast he spell, but she sees an opening and decide to shoot at Eskaron, but tripping on a rock on teh ground, the bolt doesn't even cover half the distance before it hit the ceiling. "Damned."

Moving to L11 and shoot at Eskaron. Attack roll: Natural 1, for a big total of 5 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=437137).

OOC: I know we're trying move things along, but can we have just a little more time to post, before you NPC a character? I saw the post yesterday morning before I went to work, and had planned on posting when I got home, but I found that Jack had already been moved. I'm not going to make you go back and change anything, but it is a bit frustrating, since I had planned on a much different maneuver for Jack, and now have to rethink my strategy.

Jack floats like a butterfly, and stings like bee in an effort to make his make toward Eskaron before the silvered coating wears off his blades...

Tumble to J8, and Sneak Attack kobold #4.
Tumble +8 = 21
Rapier Sneak Attack +9 +1 = 30 (Critical Threat!)
Sneak attack Damage 1d4+1d6-1+1 = 7 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=437743)

Confirm Rapier Critical Hit +8 +1 = 14
(+2 Damage, if successful.) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=437748)

(Sorry, I'll add that to the long list of things I did wrong with this adventure. I'll try to do better in the future.)

(Continuing round 1)

Planus and Opale rush into position, both missing their shots at their respective targets. Eskaron raises an eyebrow, then intones arcane words that the people with spellcraft recognize as a mage armor spell. Though the spell should be invisible, it looks as though his skin became slightly scaly. "You dare intrude, vermin? You shall see what good it will do you!"

The kobold who joined you sneers at Eskaron, then says "Your reign ends today, Cleansed One." He begins a prayerlike chant himself. The villagers, possibly frightened by the initial numbers of the kobolds, only move in carefully, with the exception of Alina, who rushes next to Planus. Quarion steps forwards, and unleashes an arrow at 4, nearly ripping off that kobold's shoulder.

(next, Katherine, and kobold 1. Then, next round begins)[/sblock]

It was at this point that I missed that eskeron had gone and sat around waiting for my turn after KO had told me it was here... :o

Katherine moves up to with ten feet (or 15 if he has a reach weapon) of the nearest kobald and makes a disarm attempt at 1d20+7=20. (IC made 3 rolls but I'm pretty sure it was the 20 which is also the 1st one)

Also, everyone remember the PLUS ONES! attack and damage, with a group of this side bardsong can really matter. Um, speaking of which I left that out of my disarm check. :o

Initiative Order:
Garma - 18
Jack - 16
Rika - Readied Action
Farid - Readied Action
Veras-Re - Readied Action
Kobolds - 15
Planus - 14
Opale - 10
Eskaron - 10
Allied Kobold - 6
Villagers - 6
Quarion - 5
Katherine - 3
Kobold 1 - 3

Katherine moves next to Opale, and easily janks the spear out of kobold 4's hands. Kobold 1 touches Eskaron, and chants (casts aid).

(round 2)

Garma tears into his opponent, but still finds no openings for his fangs. Jack almost seems to fly as he reaches kobold 4 and stabs through its reptilian heart. Rika deals a great wound to kobold 16, but doesn't drop it (3 damage due to bard song). Farid easily drops the other opposing kobold.

(Farid still has a move action. Everyone else may restate their actions for this round)

(Awesome! In that case, I'm going to run to try to kill Eskaron before Jack gets to. ;) )

For the love of all that is holy! Apparently not even the destruction and recreation of the entire multiverse has no effect on my luck. We are fighting kobolds and I have a +8 to hit and still nothing!
( Thanks. I needed that. )

(I'm assuming I'd move to G7)
As Farid passes by Jack, he looks around. "You wanna go around the right of him?"
