In ANY case, it's probably just an artistic error since it's been a while since a Thri-kreen graced a cover of any recent D&D books.

I don't like the new drawings....I've always preferred the "look" they had with Dark Sun.

What look was that? I remember some DarkSun artists giving them wide mouths instead of mandibles, some making them look like insects, and so on.

2nd edition art was, in my mind, on the whole better for TSR/WotC/D&D. Not that I'm complaining about the new artists, just saying I wish the new artists (Not you Claudio Pozas!), would look at that and say "Oh so that's what it supposed to look like."
