Thri-Kreen drawn in the races section of the XPH is a bit hokey?

What look was that? I remember some DarkSun artists giving them wide mouths instead of mandibles, some making them look like insects, and so on.

Notice Severed Head's pic....that's what they were like. They were cool cucumbers back then....now they're simple folks in bug suits.

The Thri-Kreen of Athas book was awesome :)

I still prefer the 1st ed. 'kreen- giant grasshoppers or locusts. But then I prefer the 1st ed. version of the formians as well.

I second that. I didn't get this book until recently, but it's made the kreen one of my favorite races... the history and flavor of the race is something that 3E doesn't even touch :(

I'm going to start saying that.

Anyways, the kreen from that image is definately more locust-like than more recent images, and give a more alien appearance. Odd how a larger eye size and body language changes so much.

Dragonbait, things change a lot over time.

In any case I think it's an improvement for the Kreen (2nd edition) compared to previous one (1st) or even present one (3rd).

We so need to go back to get the artwork from 2nd edition. Well some of it. ;)
