Mini-Update

Jezebel and Sir Exsixten take the fight to the northernmost thrall, making it feel the hurt, while the efforts of Cyr and the undead king leave the southernmost looking much worse for the wear. Cyr's lightning strikes also banish more of the foul-smelling tendrils back to the fell realm from which they sprang.

GM: Special Rules for this Combat:
On your turn, you can as a minor action command one of the undead you've enlisted to take a move, minor, or standard action. Each undead NPC may only perform one of each action type in any given round, however. Available attacks for each NPC are listed under their respective stat lines.

Any creature that falls or is pushed into the canal will be immediately pushed 2 squares downstream and take 1d6 damage from being slammed about by the rapidly-moving water. On your turn you may use a move action to attempt to escape the canal by making an Acrobatics or Athletics check vs. DC14 to pull yourself up out of the water. Any character ending their turn in the canal will be pushed 2 squares downstream and take 1d6 damage from being slammed about by the rapidly-moving water. If you enter the current voluntarily, you do not take the initial 1d6 damage, and you may make a DC20 athletics check to resist both the push and damage effects of the current for the duration of your turn. Thus if you succeed the check, you will not suffer the initial or end of turn push and damage effects. If you fail the check, you won't suffer the initial damage effect, but you will be immediately pushed 2 squares downstream, and if you end your turn in the water you will be pushed 2 more squares and take the 1d6 damage.

All bright light within 5 squares of the Shadow Hound is reduced to dim light, and dim light is reduced to darkness by its Shroud of Night aura. Character's with normal vision will take the according penalties to attack rolls against enemies within the aura.

OOC: [MENTION=57009]Dekana[/MENTION] - Prone was a typo. Thanks for the heads up on the links! I think the problem was that I was copying the BB code from IC and pasting it into the link dialogue.

[MENTION=60965]Iron Sky[/MENTION] - I think Sir X610 should have been at 23/33 HP, 8 THP at the end of his turn, as he took 5 damage from a tendril attack last round.

[MENTION=87106]MetaVoid[/MENTION] - The king was outside the burst radius, and the thrall at AD57 is already dead and floating down the canal. All undead have only minor actions remaining, they've all moved and attacked this round. What would you like to do with your minors?

I'll update again as soon as I've got complete actions for Cyr.

OOC: Sorry for the wait, it seems my post got lost

Cyr shifts 'south' for move. No minor as all undead did their thing.

Alnar, Ferris and Cyr all have +1 to defenses from attacks of bloodied opponents (which is I think all, but Hektesh and minions)

Seeing an opening through which it can reach the faltering shifter, the hound shoots through the shadows, letting out a deafening howl next to Ferris and snapping its fearsome jaws at the cleric. But Ferris, protected by mother Dayna's sheltering embrace, proves unreachable, and the hound snarls in confusion as its jaws find no purchase.

Stepping out of the shadows, Hekthesh clucks his tongue, saying, "Must I do everything my pet?" The fanatical dark one hurls his boomerang again, clipping the dead king and Cyr, and completely splintering the last of the skeletal archers, as the razor-sharp blade arcs back to him. "The ritual's conclusion draws near," the wicked little man goads your party with an evil smile, "You and your ragged undead allies cannot stop the Eye's reawakening!"

Recoiling from the holy force that protects their previous target the two remaining tendrils swirl toward Alnar, rending the sorcerer's flesh as the swipe at his head and arms.

The thralls meanwhile, lash out at the remaining undead and the mechanical knight. The skinwalker is at last brought low as a dark one smashes it with a dagger pommel, leaving it lying inert on the ground. A similar move against Sir Exsixten leaves the mechanical knight's head ringing like a gong.

Jezebel knocks her shield into Sir Exsixten, nearly pushing him into the water as she moves past. "No! That one is mine!" she rages at him. Neither the warforged's bulk or the futile attacks of the floating tendrils can halt her advance. She crashes into rearmost thrall, slamming her shield into its chest and following up with a whipstrike. The tiefling's pupils light up deep red as a burning halo of palpable malice forms above her.

At the other end of the chamber, the undead king floats steadily toward Hekthesh.

Avoiding the wolf-creatures lunge at him, Ferris scrabbles into a low crouch hands searching the ground for his Axe. Finally he feels its rough haft and springs into an powerful attack, hoping Sir X10's presence flanking the creature will spell its doom.

As the axe blade rips into the Shadow Hound, Ferris utters an orison consecrating the shed blood in the name of Dayna. Ferris feels a surge of vigor and bloodlust in response.
"You picked the wrong target, cur! Your blood will fuel my victory!" Ferris snarls.

Just as Sir Exsixten hurtles across the canal and strikes the wall, one of Cyr's bolts of lightning strikes the adjacent thrall dead on the spot.

Paerlanthas glides toward Hekthesh, his maddened babbling having resumed somewhat. Defiler! he screams, Enemy of all that is holy! You have decimated my royal guard, but you will never return to your fell domain alive, I shall see to that! The wraith reaches out a spectral hand to grab Hekthesh, but the cunning dark one dodges easily, and merely snickers in answer.

Ferris meanwhile gathers his strength and his axe and hews into the Shadow Hound's shoulder. Its sepulchral growl gives way to a pained *yipe!,* and it seems further injured by Dayna's radiant wrath as the axe blade bites deep, leaving the fell beast is left hobbling on three legs.

***

"Useless creature!," hisses Hekthesh, "Fight back! There, attack the sorcerer!" The injured hound winks out, reappearing at Alnar's side. Seizing his arm in its jaws, the hound proceeds to shake it as vigorously as it can. But in its injured state the hound fails to take the sorcerer down, and Alnar manages to free his arm albeit not without losing a fair bit of blood.

Hekthesh then turns his attention to the wraith, jeering "Fool king! Your people fought the Submerged Eye with the might of your whole civilization, and managed only to bind it temporarily at the cost of your lives. You and your third rate band of adventurers cannot stop us here, let alone forestall the inevitable return of the Prior Darkness!" The dark one whips a gleaming, serrated short sword from its sheath and tears through the wraith's ghostly being before dancing back into the shadows.

The last remaining tendril harries Alnar unsuccessfully, and the two remaining thralls press the attack, undeterred by their grievous injuries. But in their weakened state their attacks glance harmlessly of Jezebel and Cyr's armor.

Next update coming Monday, as I'll be out of town camping. Have a great weekend!

Notes: Sir Exsixten does +2 damage while he has any temporary hitpoints.
[/sblock][/sblock]

[sblock=Immediate Interrupt Combat Challenge]If an enemy marked by Sir Exsixten shifts or makes and attack that doesn't include him, Sir Exsixten makes a melee basic attack against that enemy. This attack has priority over Piecemeal Chainmail.[/sblock]

[sblock=Immediate Interrupt Piecemeal Chainmail]If a non-minion would miss with the attack it just made against Sir Exsixten if Sir Exsixten's AC were 2 higher, Piecemeal Chainmail activates, and the attack misses.[/sblock]
