Skyrealms of Journe d20/OGL interest?

How many people here on EN World have heard of/remember a old science fiction campaign setting called Skyrealms of Journe?

The Skyrealms of Journe Yahoo Group has been discussing what they would want or not want in a d20 or OGL version of Journe. If you're a Journe fan then I'd like to invite you over to the group and put in your two cents regarding the matter.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jorune/

My personal goal is to generate enought knowledge and interest in the campaign setting in order to prove to Skyrealms Publishing Inc. and Chessex that the setting is still a viable money maker in the industry. Either that or convince a current d20 publisher that Skyrealms of Journe would be a nice addition to anyone's product list. (Mongoose, I'm hoping you take an interest. :) )

For information about the Skyrealms of Journe, go to the Return to Journe website.

I'd buy a copy in a heartbeat. I loved that setting. Though I never got to play it. I do own all the Jorune products printed to date.

There were elements of the setting which were interesting, but I felt that it really lacked tension, politics and direction. The rules (when I bought them) depicted a pretty steady-state system and I was at a loss how to introduce interesting adventures into the system. Plus I didn't like the humanoid sub-races very much, and would rather have had free learning of magic and stuff.

I don't know whether they revised the setting to make it more dramatic.

still, I loved the potential of the shanthas and the dire corondon (if I remember spellings correctly)

You own all the Journe products. That's some library. I'd like to convince the powers that be that it would be in their interest to make all the old Journe products availalbe as ESDs, the way WotC does for its older D&D editions and Alternity.

Of course, a ESD schedule would have to be worked out and that's even if I can get a hold of them.

Well see how much support I drum up at the yahoo group.

Cheers!

I'm with you on the lack of direction in the products but remember we're talking about products released quite some time ago. Most roleplaying products, IMO, from before 1990 didn't really have a lot of direction, at least compared the industry today (there's almost too much direction, in some cases).

However, when it came to the subraces, I have to disagree. It was the unique races that sucked me in. Especially the shanthas.

The setting has so much alien potential and would be an excellent OGL game based on d20 Modern. Of course, it would have to be a *complete* game unto itself in order for me to happy, but that's just me. :)

Cheers!

Rob

I've been collecting RPG's since 1978. I have about five bookshelves of gaming stuff. I'm a bit pickier about what I buy today but I still pick up 2-3 RPG products a month. It's part of my entertainment budget. :)

love it

I've always loved the setting, but the system never really excited me.

Skyrealms of Jorune would fit particularly well into the d20 system. It's such a good setting it deserves a big meaty book like Traveller just got, though I think it'd be much better as an OGL, with it's own unique and complete character creation system.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my earlier post. I loved the other races (Shanthas, Thriddle and the other really weird looking ones). I loved the tra-sense and isho "technology".

All of those things were wonderfully alien and great.

It was only the human sub-races I disliked. You could be big+strong+have defences against magic, or you could be small and cast magic, or you could be normal and, uh, normal.

If I were to ever attempt a d20 version of the setting I'd certainly only have one human race and have a magic using class and feat chains for the big guys special isho invisibility etc.

In terms of direction and tension I evaluated it at the time against Runequest, which I'd been playing for years at that point and the campaign setting was full of built-in political rivalries and the prospect of war. Jorune seemed tame and "under control" in comparison!

Cheers
