My Bones are Here! (212 reaper minis)

So now I have a full vampire (212) of resin minis.
Its amazing. So many characters and monsters just waiting to be written into a plot or tried out as PCs.

Over an hour unboxing and bagging them and fitting them into the case.
Now what?

1. I have heard rumors they need to be washed before painting.
2. translucency (fire elementals and ghosts) are translucent. Any tips on painting them? (i guess primer is out of the question)
3. some have slightly bent spear, long pointy weapons. would heat or some kind of vice work to straighten them?
4. I have no idea how to store/carry the giants/griffons
5. Any one else got minis/ notifications?

Hit the Reaper forums...there are already a few threads of preparation advice etc. The more people that get them and start working, the more people who will be posting advice.

So far, it seems popular to dunk them in boiling water for a minute or two, unbend them, then dip them in ice water for a minute or two, then leave them for a bit. Before painting, wash them in cool water. Dry them, and primer isn't even necessary - use a base coat of paint instead.

Congrats. Still waiting on mine. I'm in Australia and ordered a Vampire level plus most of the extras, so I'll be waiting a while methinks.

Thanks stevelabny. the forums over there are full of good advice and details.
I primed 22 of them, and painted 2 and a bit.
not priming them should speed things up. (a little)

Its taking Reaper a while to get them out the door. With so many orders its perfectly understandable. Glad yours arrived. :)

I got a shipping notice about 3 days ahead of time.
I had a pretty simple order 1 vampire +1 case.
two other people in my group are still waiting for theirs, but they both had more add ins

I'm still working on a way to distinguish out minis, so far im painting the bottoms of the bases white. For multiple copies of some of the mini's im planning on painting the tops of the bases different colors (green, brown, black, yellow) so that if im using 6 kobolds or orcs in a battle, I can distinguish them (for hp tracking)

anyway its been decades since I have had this many new, unpainted minis.
Its quite exciting

Plastic, NOT resin {as far as most gamers refer to resin miniatures]. Resin figures are brittle and hazardous to cut and file.
1. I have heard rumors they need to be washed before painting.
Sometimes not, but sometimes bones have enough release agent to screw with the paint. Best to just wash them with warm water and dish soap using a toothbrush to get the nooks and crannies. Rinse well and let dry.

Be cautious with any paint or primer that is less flexible than the bones. Enamels, spray paints, and some other coatings can't flex like Bones plastic can.
2. translucency (fire elementals and ghosts) are translucent. Any tips on painting them?
Light drybrush of a highlight colour. Use clear paint if you plan on sticking LEDs in them.

3. some have slightly bent spear, long pointy weapons. would heat or some kind of vice work to straighten them?
Kinda, Boil water, turn off heat, dunk bones long enough for them to soak in the heat, carefully remove bones while bending to desired shape, dunk into ICE cold water.

I recommend using needles, toothpicks and cocktail swords to replace the weapons.

4. I have no idea how to store/carry the giants/griffons
Make a custom case from a small box and some foam.

5. Any one else got minis/ notifications?
I wish. I stocked up on big minis so I'll be much later down the line.

You ordered SEVEN Kaladraxes? And NINE Cthulhus?
I don't even have words...

Can you have a campaign end with the party encountering the Dracolich / R'yleh secret council and put all of them on the table at once?

I ordered 2 vamps + 1 of every extra + doubles of a handful of things including Cthulhu. But no doubles of Kaladrax or Nethrymaul. I'm glad there's some of you out there that make me look sane :D
