D&D 5E Star Wars D&D 5E (Hack)

Yeah, I know. Haters are gonna hate. Mods are gonna throw big words to intimidate. But I'm not saying no to you, your group, or your project. Just no in general to the whole idea, as much as I dislike the notion of a fantasy conversion of the Star Wars RPG, which does exist. It just feels like taking a huge step backward either way. But until you actually try the other game for yourself... not just glancing over it and thinking you have a grasp on things... you will never really know that. It is two completely styles of games, one specifically tailored for Star Wars and the other where everybody tries to shoehorn every theme and setting they can think of.

Sorry for the intrusion. My opinion will have no bearing here, I'm sure. I will leave you to it.

Oh I've totally played Edge of the Empire! I stuck in there for five or six games not long after we finished a d20 Star Wars Saga campaign. I had a terrible experience for a few reasons, but most of all because the group dynamics just weren't there--even in the hands of a GM with over 2 decades of time behind the table. Because it's a heavily narrative game (with a volleying mechanic between the PCs and GM) you cannot play it like you would a modular simulation game (like Pathfinder) or even a narrative simulation (like D&D 5E). In the right hands I can see it being very enjoyable but those have gotta be the right hands!

If you are already ensconced in the new Star Wars RPG, this probably isn't for you and that's totally cool (in fact it is specifically for people that play D&D 5e). Coming in here and saying no to the entire idea of hacking an RPG system to do something else is not--it disincentives other people to do cool things (like, say, hack Edge of the Empire to play a Western themed game instead of science fiction). Maybe after doing so, a group takes interest in Deadlands or another proper western RPG that they never would have imagined trying out were it not for their GM's initiative in widening their gaming perspective.
And that's why the mod came in here and told you a big word and why I have written two paragraphs explaining this--your opinion is wanted and has merit but not if you are just trolling and have nothing constructive to say.

Also, I have a fun thing saved for instances just like this! Here's Frank Mentzer talking about nuclear warheads in D&D. I guess we should tell him he's doing it wrong, eh? ;)

Once again thank you for taking part in the discussion, and I look forward to more of that when you actually have something of value to offer. :)

Please accept my apologies then. I didn't realize I was being a "troll", and I commend you for actually giving the game an earnest attempt. In my experience when someone has said they didn't like it, they often do little more than read over some bits and form a strong opinion against it. I myself could not fully appreciate the dynamics of the game until running more than one session, but I will not fault anyone who tries and does not find it as appealing as I do. It is, indeed, a very different kind of game, which is part of the retraining I had to instill in my old D&D group before we could fully appreciate what it was. To me, it just makes more sense to tell Star Wars stories as a narrative rather than the combat-centric and power-building experience of D&D. And to be fair, I did not think the d20 or Saga versions were any better.

But I digress. It wasn't for me to deride your efforts simply because it struck me at a momentary lapse of judgement (or boredom). If I find myself with more available time to spare, I may revisit when I have something more constructive to add. :)
