I need underground races

Ancalagon

Dusty Dragon
Hello

So my party is about to go into an underground bazaar (This is a purchased module into a home brewed campaign world). I've just realized that half the race present don't work with my campaign (or in one case, the adventure itself!).

Just so you don't suggest races that are already there, the list:

"Ok" races: Duergar, Derro (No more dwarves please), deep gnomes.

Not ok: drow, humans, illithids.

Kuo Toa would work, may be kobolds, but not gonlinoids or fungi men... So I just need another underground trading races or two...

Would Trolls work? Spevifically a race of smarter, more civilized subterranean trolls who consider the MM's surface trolls as their degenerate cousins.

Grimlocks. Troglodytes. Goliaths. Skum (trading on behalf of their aboleth masters--with some hidden ulterior purpose, of course). Driders (not knowing why drow aren't okay, I don't know if these guys are, but I figured I'd throw it out there). Skulks.

Did you look in the Underdark section of the DMG? The table includes:

Grimlocks
Troglodytes
Mephits
Ogres
Half-ogres
Quaggoths
Minotaurs
Gargoyles
Beholders
Chuuls
Ettins
Nagas
Salamanders
Fomorians

Minotaurs, half-orcs, tieflings, tabaxi, were-rats, the vampire race from Plane Shift: Ixalan or Plane Shift: Zendikar, or a race of half-dragons.

You can also take whatever race you like from the surface world and add 60' darkvision and a muted color palette and call it an underdark version of that race. Lizardfolk, for example - make them ahsen gray and give them darkvision and you're good to go.

Some of the people at a large underdark bazaar would be there as representatives of races that might not be welcome themselves, like mind flayers, aboleth, or neogi. They might be otherwise "normal" specimens but have some overt indication that they are actually a thrall, like a adamantine collar or translucent, slimy skin and a need to pour water over its head every few minutes.

How about converting Seshayans from Alternity/Star*Drive (and which were converted into the D20 system in D20 Future)?
