D&D 5E Dragon Talk on Tyranny of Dragons

Right back at you!

I’m not wrong. Dragonlances and dragons are not required for a Story set in the dragonlance setting.

We’re dragon lances a part of the original three novels? I concede that they were, but I still believe they weren’t central to the story. They certainly were not central Ron the first novel which is the one I remember best. However, even if I am completely wrong with my memory it doesn’t change the fact that there are lots of other stories in the dragonlance setting that have nothing to do with dragons or Dragon lances.
Again, no one but you is talking about the setting as a whole. The discussion is about the Tyranny of Dragons AP, and this tangential discussion is about how it relates to the original Dragonlance story. Later DL setting stories are entirely irrelevant, on every possible axis.

And main characters are directly involved in the acquisition of the means to make the lances, help silverhand get to where he can forge the lances, and ride good dragons.

it’s a major part of the story, and directly involves the main characters.

i think Perkins was talking about the similarities in a very high concept way.

Sure, but since my offhand remark about lances and riding dragons was taken so seriously, I’m engaging in that discussion, rather than really digging into how much the AP is actually supposed to reflect DL and the War of The Lance.

(The war is even named after the lances. The heroes are called The Heroes of The Lance, for crying out loud!)

First: you are demonstrably wrong.
About what? I have read only read 9 novels set in dragonlance, and only 3 of those involved dragons and dragon lances. From my perspective I am demonstrably correct.

Second: want to make any guesses as to the general commercial success of those stories not connected to the core conceits of the setting?
I have no knowledge of the success of any of the books, but they sure made a lot to them!

Third: this isn't about "Krynn as a general D&D setting" it is about "Dragonlance" which is a particular slice of time in a particular location in that setting.
OK, we have a difference in viewpoint. I consider the dragonlance setting all of Krynn and its history.

OK, my bad. I thought we were discussing the whole setting. I thought it was about how Tyranny of Dragons could be seen as a Dragonlance in the Realms story. I took that to mean how it could relate to that whole setting, not just Chronicles.

And main characters are directly involved in the acquisition of the means to make the lances, help silverhand get to where he can forge the lances, and ride good dragons.

I conceded I don't remember those parts as much and they are clearly pivotal to the war.

However, that doesn't change my understanding of the original point of the conversation (I thought) that you could easily convert HotDQ and RoT into a dragonlance adventure (even without dragonlances).

However I did not say it almost destroyed 5e. Rather I said it almost killed 5e from the start. Due to how bad it is. And the proof is all there. This does not preclude people from running or enjoying it. Turns out internet nerd drama hyperbole is in the replies.
Hmm, what exactly is the difference between 'almost destroyed 5e' and 'almost killed 5e'?

According to the Oxford Dictionary, kill is a synonym of destroy; they both mean to put an end to something. So you did effectively say it almost destroyed 5e.

It's been a long day...

I mean, stylistically there are Dragons and Tiamat and good dragons if you can convince them to work with you (just like in Chronicles).

Just no lances and riders ;)

I also agree that DL was a lot about faith and that is something that FR lacks in the same ways.

Not technically from Dragon Talk, instead from Spoilers & Swag, but I didn't want to make a new thread for it...

This concept art is honestly SO GOOD that I'm amazed it didn't make it into the book. I hope this and Descent into Avernus means no more of this excellent art is going to go to waste in future books!
