D&D 4E Presentation vs design... vs philosophy

I don't believe that Knock Down was an at-will effect in 4e. It would have been an encounter power effect.

Yes, but should you have been able to?
When my character is interacting with really really large enemies yes I should that isnt happening at low level

It depends. Speaking personally, I've nearly been taken out innumerable times by an excited chihuahua jumping behind me as I walk through the door and hitting me right behind the knee as I walk. :p
The bigger they are the harder they fall... take a feat and do more damage if the character is really large

Perhaps 5e should have just imposed disadvantage.

Good find.
1. Note it's a power not of the 1[W] variety
2. What exactly did prone do in 4e? Because it wasn't anywhere near the power of advantage and disadvantage, right?
3. This was also in a much later book than PHB.

I felt like essentials was a different game and stopped being into 4e when it came out. That kind of power wasn't how the rest of 4e was set up pre essentials.
There was a fighter power set up like this... the distinction is just that one enhanced a basic attack.
