Spelljammer Jeff Grubb was surprised by Spelljammer

It's possible that most of the people who will be purchasing wotc's Spelljammer and Dragonlance were not alive when the original came out. They are reimagining the setting for the current edition and their current audience, not, or not just, the people who were into the original setting (in the case of Spelljammer, a very small subset of 2e players).

I’m not surprised nor do I expect it. They don’t use Ed or Jeff on the Forgotten Realms either. Fans get upset about this more than creators not named Alan Moore do.
I mean, what they did was give Greenwood an infinite playground to monetize: he can get as detailed as he wants, on the DMsGuild. Hickman and Wriss can, similarly, make their own Dragonlance products now, or Grubb Spwlljammer...but that might be below his current paygrade.

It's pretty poor form on WOTCs part not to consult the original creators of a setting when they decide to actually do something with it. Not even telling them before the public is pretty inexcusable in my opinion.

Eh. I take my lead from the creator. If they're not too bent out of shape about it, I'm not going to be. I'd have their back if they felt they wanted support in a protest about it, but if they don't then I'm OK with it.

I agree.

I do wish they’d talked to Jeff. But it seems OK.

It looks like he was getting a flood of questions about it and wanted to let folks know he didn’t have any info to share about the new release.

Though I might do my best to nudge him to do stuff on the dms guild. Like he even knows who I am.

He is involved in a new venture to do Modern20 for 5e if you want to give him some support.

I'd love if he would do that (no clue if he's actually interested).

I played in a Spelljammer adventure (with 1e rules) that was ran by Grubb in Lucca Comics and Games in 2019 and, besides enjoying the adventure, I thought he was a really nice guy.

It's really not. We're talking about professional writers, here. If you do work-for-hire, you know the score. I found out about the upcoming edition of Midnight right here, and I wouldn't have expected otherwise. I certainly wouldn't consider it "poor form" for the EDGE folks not to notify or consult me about it.

In fact, hey EDGE folks: You should do Dragonstar, too. It's way cooler than Spelljammer! :D
