D&D General Demonweb Pits!? Neverwinter the cg is going there. Could that mean the RPG is?

It’s not always a one to one relationship but it often has been. What would a 5e Demonweb look like? Maybe this is a glimpse.

Through a failed and fractured spell, Lolth and her realm the Demonweb Pits, have broken through the Material Plane into the Narbondellyn neighborhood of Menzoberranzan. Heroes must band together to build the Realm Engine, an ancient apparatus to seal away Lolth and the Demonweb Pits.

Didn't we already have more or less this exact plot in "Out of the Abyss?"

Okay, not precisely the same. OotA had Lolth dumping all the other demon lords into Menzoberranzan, so that she could take over the Abyss. Still, "Menzoberranzan has become a gateway to the Abyss due to the machinations of Lolth, go assemble a MacGuffin to fix it" has already been pretty thoroughly done in 5E.

The trailer makes it sound as if the endgame of Neverwinter's Demonweb Pits is to drive Lolth out of Menzoberranzan. It'd be easy to see a Lolthless Menzoberranzan making its way to D&D, putting the last nail in the coffin of the "traditional" all-evil drow.

I think that if 5e is going to remain "Evergreen" then they need to continue to update classic Adventures. My preference would be for updates akin to the 4e Dragon Magazine version of Against the Giants rather then the Yawning Portal version.

For those unfamiliar, the difference would be the Dragon Mag had new Mike Schley maps and a whole new chapter on Stone Giants by Perkins (as well as more named/unique characters and the whole overall plot being more clear) VS the TFtYP version being just the original with 5e Stats.

I'd like to see that treatment done with just abou any old adventure. Remixes and Remasters. Lovely.

This probably ties into major events in RA Salvatore's Way of the Drow series.

And no even if Lolth and her followers are driven out of Menzo, it doesn't mean that's the end of evil Drow, it means the flee to an other evil drow city, there is a a whole bunch of them, including one near Menzo. Traditionally Menzo wasn't even the biggest Lolth worshipping Drow city in Toril.

No, there is a host of Lolth worshipping Drow cities, including one nearby for her faithful to flee to. And I think its more likely tied to the next Drizzt novel in the Way of the Drow series, Lolth's Warrior, then an TTRPG adventure. Hopefully we also hear about Lorendrow finally.

The Neverwinter team has done a nice job of integrating Out of the Abyss and the novels. They worked directly with R.A. Salvatore and his son to build the narrative. Lots of appearances from novel NPCs.

Should it be of interest, I should add that I've been slowly and steadily capturing the Lore of Neverwinter, including the old and current Drow storylines. I do this because I find the lore interesting, but also because the visuals can be amazing fodder for DM creativity. It try to highlight that in the videos. If you click on the playlist link there are some videos early on covering the Neverwinter version of Out of the Abyss, plus the later videos capture Drow storylines. New video going up tomorrow!
