D&D 5E Book & Deck of Many Things Sneak Peek!

I was there [at Gen Con] when they took these. I wasn’t allowed to take my own. The box with the cards is nice and, I think, magnetic.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but what’s with the WoW goblin? I haven’t bought too many in-print books since the end of 4e, but I don’t remember D&D goblins having such exaggerated ears, and I know I made a Horde goblin who looked like that (and had a pimped out ride, at least for the starter zone).

I'm still not sure on this one. Wonder what is in the book besides descriptions of the cards. Could be cool if there are alternate cards and powers, or if there are campaign ideas to use the box with.
Apparently:

  • 50+ magic items (more than any book since the DMG)
  • 30+ new Monsters
  • locations and maps for many of the 66 cards
  • fluff about the cosmic Fates behind the cards
  • advice on ways to use the stuff in a game
  • a system to use the cards to build a whole Adventure procedurally

That's a pretty standard 5E Goblin.
Thanks, guess I’m still used to the older goblins with shorter ears closer to the skull from older editions. I have the 5e MM on my shelf, but I don’t think I ever read through it. Got too confused by the “natural language” in the PHB and bounced super hard. Probably because I spend too much time reading KBs and writing SOMs and RAs, where one has to get right to the point on everything.

I’m struggling with a similar issue with the Old Gods of Appalachia game right now. Not sure if it’s just a cypher system thing or not, but man…some stuff is better spelled out.

The below are some early 5R Hoblins:
