D&D (2024) 2025 Monster Manual All You Need to Know video link is up.

I like the picture of all those Dragon Wyrmlings.

Mimics disguising themselves as things other than chests is a good thing to show. I think you should be worried about Mimic toilet seats...

And it looks like they're continuing with Githzerai that look exactly like Githyanki. I wonder if they're Aberrations now, since the monster entries were in Planescape 5e.

Well, yes and no. The empyrean from the 2014 MM has slightly more lore than the version here. But they expanded the empyrean into a general category (with overview text) and added the iota as a brand new variant. The 2024 empyrean (category) also has an evocative quote, which the 2014 version did not.

The lore itself is also slightly differently focused - probably what @Bae'zel would call more "practical" (sorry if I'm putting words in your mouth, though!).
The 2014 entry had 4 paragraphs of lore. The new one as 4 paragraphs of lore, plus a table of lore, plus the Iota lore. I don't really see how you can see the 2014 version has more lore.

On the topic of the Empyrean, my mind immediately went to a Warlock Patron Empyrean, like they mentioned. I can also see Paladins and Clerics connected to an Empyrean, and an Iota familiar or companion or at least common association with an Iota NPC that gives them information, and orders, from their deity. I can see an Iota being the thing that delivers Divination information from some spells even. A lot of interesting possibilities with that little creature addition.

I guess I wasn't clear enough: the above is for what's listed in 2024 as the generic empyrean, with three paragraphs of lore. Said paragraphs are slightly shorter than their 2014 counterparts (and don't cover all of the same things, though there is overlap).

However, 2024 also adds the iota as a completely new variant, and has a much longer general overview (plus the evocative quote, if that counts as lore, which I would). Hence "yes and no".

That all said, I don't think we can really make any definitive statements on 2014 vs. 2024 lore writ large until we've seen all the entries in the 2025 MM.

Looks good. I'll be honest, ever since seeing Dave's "Legendary Action Pool" for monsters, I've started converting all my epic encounters to that. But I do like the new WotC monsters they talk about; I think they are offering good plug-and-play pieces.

I agree completely.

However, I am guessing there will be much less lore overall. With the move to alphabetical organization I am guess we lose a lot of grouped monster lore.
From the video that sounds like it is moving to the end of the book, where Monsters will have a sorted based on grouping section.

That could be, I didn't think about that as they just really mentioned the list and not any lore in that section. However, it would make sense to have some there.
