For those who don't play D&D (or its clones), what keeps you engaged with EN World?

I keep getting banned from Reddit for mildly suggesting Nazis should be met with violence, and I ultimately like this place better for staying in touch with the hobby.

This gets complicated.

First off, I'm really not interested in D&D proper or any of its really close kin; that doesn't mean someone couldn't sell me on playing in a game of it, but the persistent irritant of one mechanical element I strongly dislike would bother me, and there's not much to attract me there. And I can't think of the circumstance where I'd run it (and I'm primarily a GM).

That said, there are a couple cousin systems (PF2e, 13th Age and Shadow of the Weird Wizard) that I find have some virtues, and I can be sold on those easier.

But I do prefer other non-D&D-sphere games. I'd probably prefer a board less D&D-centric, but of the three I've tried, I'm no longer welcome on one, and the tone of the other two put me off. I at least find enough discussion of gaming in general, or avowedly D&D discussion that really applies generally, to keep my interest, and of course there's the side discussion of other geek interests.

I've found that the only thing required to have more discussion about non-D&D games is to start (or engage in) more discussion about non-D&D games.

Though you run into the issue that its hit or miss how well a thread about games that aren't well known will take off, since the percentage of people playing other RPGs are lower in the first place. You have better luck with general threads about RPGs that don't assume D&D is the standard to work from than discussion about specific RPGs IME.

Honestly, that's a really good question. I've found myself heading over to the tabletop RPG forum much more than the D&D one for a while now as I've drifted off from 5E. I'm just about to go back to a game we're starting up again with existing characters so I'll be playing it, but we're using the 5.0 rules, so a lot of the discussion in that forum won't even apply.

Assuming interest in Daggerheart fades, I'll probably be here less and less until we decide to move to 5.5, if that even happens. Which is too bad, because I enjoy a lot of the discussion with a lot of y'all. Probably be back come Gamehole Con time to see who will be going there and interested in grabbing a beverage.

I'm curious, since I've sometimes looked around: is this the only RPG forum you use, and if not, where else do you hang?
