D&D General Would You Play High Level (12-15);Wiith Pre Generated Characters? Mostly 5.0/5.5 but theoretically any edition.

I've run high-level (17th) D&D (PF1e) in the past. The PCs were literally superheroes. Like I could convert them over to Mutants & Masterminds and have a mini Justice League. And some players just love that kind of power-fantasy and there's nothing wrong with it.

It's just weird to me that people use D&D for that when a superhero ttrpg or Exalted or Godbound would do it better. I'd love to understand the thought process but I get that everything isn't meant to be understood.

Those games generally only exist in theory.
Superheroes outside MCU are also very American imho.

It's pretty simple logic really. DnD is the best TTRPG gaming system because it has by far the most players, and then because the system itself is decent enough. After some tailoring by the DM, DnD works pretty well (but definitely not perfectly) for just about any campaign type you could ever want to play.

Those other games you mentioned don't work at all, mainly for the reason that I've never heard of them and would never in a million years be able to find a group to play them. "Decent system + able to find players" is going to beat "perfect system but no players" every time

Ones you mentioned.

Good luck finding players espicially if you're not American.
I've never heard of anyone playing those games in America. This has nothing to do with country of origin, your only shot at ever finding people to play obscure TTRPGs with would be online, which everyone can access

Well pitchedd it as potential BG4 game.

Fairly enthusiastic response. May have found a couple of potential new players.

Dibs were kinda called on Karlach, Wyll, Laezel and Astarion. 1 TBD and potentially another 1 TBD.

Not sure if it will happen only an idea atm.

I still don’t get all the ENworld posts about only being able to play D&D (5e) because in the competitive market for players, that’s all anyone will play.

D&D groups I’ve seen tend to be friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, college students - and with far more players than GM’s. And GM’s deciding what is played by the group.

An open marketplace with players choosing from a variety of games on offer, and GM’s lacking for players and having to all offer the same thing to appeal in the marketplace, isn’t something I’ve seen.

In a competitive market where “all restaurants are Taco Bell” … opening a cafe might work?

Other RPGs are an occasional thing you see occasionally. Outside USA they're also expensive espicially if you font end up using them.

D&D Facebook group does allow other ROGs to be discussed and advertised. Usually get 0 replies and there's no dedicated RPG for anything that's not D&D maybe Pathfinder maybe Star Wars.

Do you might find that 1 in ten player being generous) who will do something else. You need to find another two or 3. And hope not D&D they won't to play is what the others want to play.

Sometimes they own the books and hint at you wanting to run it. For a genre, system that you have no idea about or completely doesn't interest you. Or the books art looks like ass.

It's easier to form a D&D group hope they're reliable then see if they want to do something else occasionally.

Said books are often similar in price to a meal for 2 a drink or two and dessert.

Because telling a group of 5-6 people who all show up with shiny new 5e books "Actually, we're going to play this game X, which you've never heard of" is a social challenge. Certainly one I've failed in the past.
