The Mystery in Bridgetown

Wild Jaguar feel guilty that he wasted slate dart and now seeing his companion's selfless but also too brave and reckless action, he's still shoot the hated woman with flint dart but making sure he won't hit his comrade. Then he will jump at her hoping to distract her from Whisper and to cause her to hesitate what she should do now, while being attacked in the same time from both sides.

The witch manages to throw another rock at Jaguar before Whisper can get in her way. She also avoids being tackled by the slower young man, his change in tactics proving to be futile. Jaguar is little affected by the rock or the mystical attempt to confuse him and retaliates by shooting his last flint dart.

Perhaps Whisper was able to use himself as a distraction. Jaguar Mahoao hits the soft tissue of the woman’s middle a second time. This causes some marked bleeding, and the force of air throws her back a full two strides. The witch is no longer able to physically move, and she labors to breathe, though she is still conscious. With all his pent frustration, Whisper grabs a fallen limb from the ground that still appears to be somewhat solid and bashes in her skull.

Neither young man is physically hurt, merely a bit dazed. The woman lays flat in the mud, facing the sky she will never again see. Her days of mischief are over. The other man who had caused her running to cease is nowhere to be seen, and no sign of his passage exists. The dilemma of the vampire bats has been solved.

Grateful to see that the witch is dead, Whisper calms himself and controls his breathing. Realizing that he is not physically hurt, he knows that remaining calm for a time should be enough to clear his head. He will search the woman to see if she has anything worth confiscating. He turns to his friend, seeing that he is not injured. “At this point, I guess we should return to Bridgetown and tell them of what we have discovered.”

Seeing how Whisper brutally finished their enemy makes Wild Jaguar experience a series of flashbacks. His previous band did that and similar or even worse bloody things after every fight they won, competing with one another who will be the most cruel, while laughing at his sense of pity for the victims. While he agrees that the woman deserved what she got, he's keep standing and looking at what is left of the witch's head, without saying anything. Finally hearing his companion's words causes him to rapidly snap out of his gore memories. "Aye. Let us go." He turns back while adjusting his satchel, don't wanting to eat anything now.

Looking up at the evidence of his act of violence while he searches the woman, Whisper shakes his head, disappointed in himself. Of course the woman had mystically attacked his mental process. With the moment gone and his thoughts again his own, he seems the same person that he always is. The woman is a virtual bounty of trinkets, but nothing adorning her is of any better use than those carried by Jaguar, so there was no point in taking anything.

Pondering the return, the two young men come to the realization of how long they have been gone and how far they traveled. It will require almost a tenday to return, barring distractions, plus crossing back over the river. Rather than attempt to swim the broader expanse as before, it is deemed more expedient to follow along the far bank until the river grows more narrow.

During the return, at separate times, the attention of Jaguar Mahoao is drawn toward four different plants from which he thinks that medicinal materials might be taken. These are not plants that he has encountered before. Along the river's edge, the two find several stones and ingots that should be of some value, if not personal use, but like the plants, they are unfamiliar.

Wild Jaguar does his best to recognize these findings and will also search for material he can use to make a new darts for himself and stones useful for his friend's sling. Then he proposes to make a camp here, as he feels that something new is awaiting them yet.

Caustic Leaf: This name is given to the leaves of a variety of small herbs, shrubs, and vines, which are hazardous to touch. When recognized, the character is considered to be unharmed by the leaves, because care was taken when they were collected. One measure of the leaves can be carefully dried and ground into powder. The powder will enhance the mystical effectiveness of generating a caustic burn by triple (Corrosion x3); after which, the measure disintegrates. The Bender is not harmed during the use of this product. This may only be sold in certain nefarious markets.

Pacify: This name is given to the leaves or flowers of a variety of small herbs, shrubs, and vines. If held in hand, a measure will enhance the mystical effectiveness of pacification (Enthrall x3); after which, the measure disintegrates. This is not toxic enough to kill. The victim will only lose consciousness no matter how much Mind is reduced. This may only be sold in certain nefarious markets.

Tranquility: This name is given to the leaves or flowers of a variety of small shrubs, herbs, vines, and cacti. One measure, when ingested or chewed or brewed into a consumed tea, will accelerate the normal rate of restoration for the loss of Mind or its developmental components by double and augment the impetus for physical function and intellectual cognizance (Cohesion +10) for one hour.

Invigorate: This name is given to the leaves or flowers of a variety of herbs, grasses, and cacti. One measure, when held in hand will enhance athletics (Adrenaline x3); after which, the measure disintegrates.

Amberstone: This is a translucent, yellow stone, about the size of a thumb knuckle. If bodily carried, a stone will continually augment personal interactions (Persona +2).

If held in hand, a stone will enhance the mystical effectiveness of altering the attitude of a person or animal (Compulsion or Enthrall x3); after which, the stone disintegrates.

Milkstone: This is a shiny, white, opaque stone, about the size of a thumb knuckle. It always feels wet when rubbed. If bodily carried, a stone will continually augment mental fortitude (Will +2). If held in hand, a stone will enhance the mystical effectiveness of absorbing heat (Frostbite x3); after which, the stone disintegrates.

If bodily carried, a stone will also enhance resistance to heat (Insulate x3); if used in this manner, the stone disintegrates.

Emberstone: This is a shiny, opaque orange stone with flecks or streaks of semi-translucent yellow running through it, giving the appearance of an inner heat. If bodily carried, a stone will continually augment the impetus for physical function and intellectual cognizance (Cohesion +2).

If held in hand, a stone will enhance the mystical effectiveness of altering the attitude of a person or animal (Compulsion or Enthrall x3); after which, the stone disintegrates.

Collectively the two find ingots of aluminum, zinc, chromium, and manganese. Jaguar is also able to locate suitable stones to make six new darts.
GM: Aluminum: This is a dull, light-gray, light-weight, semi-hard metal. It can be combined with zinc to manufacture the alloy called Ularin, used in the production of certain weapons, giving it commercial value. If held in hand, an ingot will enhance the mystical effectiveness of generating an electro-magnetic node (Electrocute or Blind x3); after which, the ingot disintegrates.

Zinc: This is a dull, whitish, rock-like metal in its natural state. It may be used by alchemists to make curatives, giving it some value outside of metal working, or it may be combined with iron to make a more weather resistant alloy. If held in hand, an ingot will enhance the mystical effectiveness of wound recovery (Recover or Restore x3); after which, the ingot disintegrates.

Chromium: This is an extremely shiny, mirror-like metal used by more knowledgeable metal workers in the manufacture of weather-resistant alloys. If held in hand, an ingot will enhance the mystical effectiveness of personal interactions (Compulsion x3); after which, the ingot disintegrates.

Manganese: This is a dark, gray, fairly soft metal with a purplish tint used by more knowledgeable metal workers in the manufacture of weather-resistant alloys. If held in hand, an ingot will enhance the mystical effectiveness of siphoning life (Leach x3); after which, the ingot disintegrates.

During the third day of travel, as the two young men are preparing to make camp for the evening, they are ambushed by some waiting spiders. Though the arachnids are usually easy to dispatch, their initial bite can prove quite problematic due to the venom.
