The Kansas City Chiefs posted an interesting video over the weekend, featuring six of their defensive players playing Dungeons & Dragons. The video, Dungeons & Defense, was posted over the weekend and has racked up over 29,000 views as of Monday morning. The video features Chris Jones, Mike Pennel, George Karlaftis, Derrick Nnadi, Mike Danna, and Ashton Gillotte in a session led by veteran Actual Play performer Anna Margaret in a homebrew session. The session itself follows typical D&D tropes - six adventurers enter a tavern and are tasked with retrieving a magical orb stolen from a sect of clerics. The full video can be found below.

The NFL and TTRPGs have had a series of recent crossovers. The Cleveland Browns had a well-documented game of D&D going for several years featuring defensive star Myles Garrett. The ringleader of that group, Johnny Stanton IV now produces tabletop RPG content. Additionally, former Dallas Cowboys player Travis Frederick co-founded Demiplane.

In high jr high school football I had a “did we just become best friends” moment when we realized a bunch of us were playing D&D.

We were already friends cause “team” and all but this was a special extra moment.
TTRPGS are a collaborative effort, it takes the entire group to make a successful game. I could see how that would translate to any team sport were not just one player can carry the team or be a tool to help them develop as a well-oiled machine.

There’s a long history of crossover between gaming and sports. Back in the 1990s, they San Antonio Spurs had a LAN on their team plane to play Starcraft.

With social media being a thing, a lot more players turn to things like gaming (digital and tabletop) to socialize and blow off steam. You are one bad decision away from going viral at a bar or nightclub.
In 1990s MLS (us pro soccer) the teams stayed at bad hotels and most players couldn't afford gaming systems.
One group, including someone who is now a Chief Soccer Officer and another who is Director of Development, would skip the bar at Applebee's and Chili's instead playing 1e/2e together in their cheap motel rooms.
One of the above went on to play in my only Actual Play. The other's son now runs his high school's D&D program after I convinced both to return to their hobby.

The Cleveland Browns had a regular campaign going. It featured in Sports Illustrated (prior to their recent PE downfall). The organizer retired from the NFL and is now a full time D&D creator.
Myles Garrett has been a huge D&D player for years. He's having an alright year... ;)

Speaking of Spurs, Tim Duncan is a well-known D&D nerd as well.

This is awesome! The Royals had a D&D adventure as a giveaway this year. I have a friend who lives there, and he picked up a copy. I have to ask, what is so RPG-friendly about that area? I've only been there to visit, but it seems like there is a lot of nerd-friendly stuff going on there.
