Edit: I realized my post could have been misunderstood out of context. The story had some darker moments. Leia's torture. Bail Organa killing an imperial officer.

So far Empire seems more funny? I was expecting it to be darker than Star Wars because the movie was darker in tone. I haven't gotten to the battle of Hoth yet. It started off with an entire convoy of rebel ships being destroyed. I said this does seem to be setting a tone. But the scene where Ham is interacting with the deck officer before going out to find Luke was funny. Then once he finds Luke they have a funny conversation.
Deck officer: Is your droid malfunctioning?
Han: No more than usual.
Deck: why is your hand over his vocal opening?
Han: He has a cough.

Luke: What's that smell?
Han: You. I had to put you inside the carcass of my Tauntaun to keep you warm.
Luke: I guess you can cancel all my social engagements for the evening.

Definitely more “buddy film” type quips in Empire.

When he said "He has a cough" I roared in laughter. It slayed me for some reason. You're right though.

I left out Han's line about Chewbacca being a quarter ton wookie on a rampage. A threat he made to the deck officer
