Guardians Of Order, Inc. proudly announced today that it will release on 10 July 2003 a System Reference Document (SRD) for its highly anticipated d20 System anime RPG, BESM d20, under Wizard’s of the Coast’s Open Game License version 1.0a. This unprecedented action marks the first time a third-party RPG publisher has released a comprehensive SRD of its d20 System game to the gaming public, making it easy for developers to incorporate elements of BESM d20 into their own publications. The SRD will be available from Guardians Of Order’s website and includes all open game content (OGC) contained in its print publications, BESM d20.

“BESM d20 deconstructs the d20 System, redefining it as a balanced, point-based, multi-genre role-playing tool,” said Guardians Of Order President, Mark C. MacKinnon. “We have only recently started to publish d20 System products and wanted to give something valuable back to the d20 community … to both the fans and creators. We know that developers are frustrated by having to interpret obscure declarations of OGC, and weary of scanning text to obtain content for reuse. By declaring almost the entirety of BESM d20 as OGC and making the text available as a free download from our website, we are encouraging other pioneering developers to build upon our work to create innovative point-based d20 System variants. Additionally, our trademark licensing initiatives and creator-owned publishing imprint, Magnum Opus, allow creators to indicate compatibility with BESM d20 on their products and tap into our established sales and distribution network. We are taking the d20 System in new directions, and welcome the participation of other like-minded publishers.”

BESM d20 is inspired by the dynamic settings and stories found in a wide range of anime shows, allowing players to create characters from any genre or sub-genre. Built for anime, but versatile enough to handle anything, BESM d20 is the perfect companion for any d20 System RPG — fantasy, modern, historical, or future. BESM d20 includes: new character classes (including magical girl, mecha pilot, pet monster trainer, and a dozen more), new skills, new feats, an exhaustive list of special abilities and disadvantages, and a detailed cost assignment for the core fantasy/modern races and classes. BESM d20 is available in a 144-page, black-and-white, hardcover Standard Edition (GUA02-600; ISBN 1-894525-72-8) and a special Deluxe Limited Edition (GUA02-699; ISBN 1-894938-02-X) that includes full-colour printing on premium quality paper, dozens of gorgeous anime images, a foil-stamped hardbound cover, an exquisite dust jacket, and cloth bookmark.
