Unearthed Arcana Four New Elf Subraces in Unearthed Arcana

Sorry, but I believe you missed a significant part of my objection and why I call many elf subraces lazy. I have bolded it below. Most elf subraces are basically this: "They're ice elves. They live in the arctic, so they get different stat bonuses and have cold resistance. Culture? Ehhh...

Unearthed Arcana Four New Elf Subraces in Unearthed Arcana

Virtually every elf subrace is "(insert environment type here) Elf." Sky Elves, Water Elves, Forest Elves, etc. Generally, I feel like elf subraces are sort of lazy: we get a new race, but not really, because it's just another elf, frequently with little to no real cultural differences in...

D&D 5E Come out and put yourself on the Gygax scale!

G2 for me. True, but I will add that mechanics can also really help convey concepts and flavor in a meaningful way, as long as they don't run contrary to the flavor you want to convey.

    D&D 5E D&D Beyond's Epanded Racial Feats are available on DM's Guild

It's not that people had an issue because they thought that it was exclusive WotC content. It's that people have an issue with anything being exclusive to having to pay before either seeing the product or seeing a review of the product by someone whose opinion they can trust.

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

Within reason. Fair use laws need to play a role as well.

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

While true, that's only indicative of a small group. For example, I don't think people should be allowed (for their commercial benefit) to do "absolutely anything they feel like" with a company's IP.

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

I did not say that. I said that basic necessities cost more here. Most Americans have incomes high enough to be the envy of people in other parts of the world. That's certainly true. However, our expenses are not priced at the same amounts that theirs are. Yes, a minimum wage American earns...

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

It's not as if each person in the US has an equal share of that 90%. Most of it's concentrated in a small fraction of the US population. Also, basic necessities tend to cost more here. So, it's not as if we make US incomes and pay expenses at prices found in Mexico (or elsewhere).

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

Compared to other companies? Yes, I'd say paranoid is an appropriate (if slightly excessive) adjective. Also, what do "millennials" have to do with this? People have been copying CDs and Cassettes and VHS tapes well before millennials were a generation for people to excrete upon to popular...

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

I buy them wherever I get the best price. Sometimes that's from a local bookseller. Sometimes that's from a seller through Amazon. And, some books are exclusively available through my college bookstore.

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

Look, I'm not a statistician (though I am an accountant), but even I know anecdotes aren't data. However, it is the closest thing to data that's available for me to draw conclusions from. As for knowing that the research exists, I don't reasonably think we can say that. WotC, while very good...

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

Which is a nice hypothetical. Fact is we really don't have access to their pdf sales research. All I can do is draw on my own experiences, both with people I know in real life and with what I've read on the forums. A lot of people seem to want pdfs, for the right price. A lot of people also...

D&D 5E What character generation method does your group use?

As the DM for my group, my players roll 4D6 keep 3; then they're able to choose either the stats they've rolled or the standard array (whichever is better).

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

WotC has been good at performing market research. However, WotC has also seemed unwilling to sell PDF copies of 5e books. Consequently, it wouldn't really surprise me if their pirate paranoia impeded their desire to do research on or plan for digital sales.

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

Ugh. I gotta say, I'm incredibly sick of people referring to things and people (usually in a derogatory manner) as "special snowflakes." I don't believe that's accurate. I've purchased several books that came with digital enhancements from a card received from behind the counter. Backwards...

D&D 5E Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

The books could come with cards that have a code on them. The code is beneath a scratch-off portion (like those scratch and win lottery tickets), so you'll be able to see if the code has been revealed (which likely means it's already been used). To discourage theft of the cards from the books...

[POLL] Which Xanathar's Guide Cover Do You Prefer?

I haven't liked any of the special edition covers. Every time I see a new special edition cover unveiled I'm forced to ask "This is supposed to entice me to go buy it from my FLGS right when it comes out?" And to conclude that, at least for me, it totally fails to do so.
