    Player Problems..

Sometimes you end up with a player who just isn't happy no matter what. Good luck with the situation and my only advice is to talk to him in person and one on one if at all possible.

    The history of your world

I've found that a little history seems to go a long way with most players: I usually just provide the basic, broadstrokes with more details on whatever is most recent / affects the characters lives and fill in additional details as the campaign progresses or as either I or the players develop...

    Maps of Fictional Modern Areas

...Or maybe some Mutants & Masterminds! Those are some really great maps by someone at the UofMichigan!

    Need some ideas to flesh-out a one-shot

How about a personal attack from an old enemy? Perhaps all of the old dwarves children (and grandchildren, etc.) are suddenly suffering from an illness of obviously magical origins (i.e. a cure disease doesn't cut it) and the group realizes, or gets a letter from, an old enemy that infected the...

    Craft Skill Calculator? Anyone?

You rock. Big time. Love the calculator in such a way that must be illegal and/or unholy.

How well does Armor as Damage Reduction work?

Good point - UA doesn't mention that (unless I missed it). I'm playing Iron Heroes currently and it's got a very interesting system, although rolling DR for each hit gets a little annoying (and hard for some players to remember a little later in the gaming evening). On the positive side, it...

How well does Armor as Damage Reduction work?

+3 Leather Armor would have a +4 AC bonus (one initially, three from the magic) and DR 1/- as per the UA rules: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/armorAsDamageReduction.htm#armorDamageReductionValues

How well does Armor as Damage Reduction work?

In the UA rules, enhancement bonuses to armor apply just to the AC, not DR. You could make the armor out of adamantine for additional DR (as per the DMG).

How well does Armor as Damage Reduction work?

Thank you for the link! It's an interesting post, although I think a lot of his concerns are addressed by the UA system - at least they appear to be (i.e. especially the higher level of complexity SKR assumes is needed with the AC/DR system). It seems like a very good system and UA even warns...

How well does Armor as Damage Reduction work?

Exactly my concern! Were you able to adjust to the change (i.e. different character builds, fighting defensively, etc.), or would have something like a class defense bonus helped? Was the loss of four points of AC (in the fighter with plate example) a critical difference? (I like the way the...

How well does Armor as Damage Reduction work?

We're looking at implimenting this (as per Unearthed Arcana rules) for an upcoming campaign and I'm curious as to who has used this rule and what your experiences are with it. In addition to general feedback, did you find that at mid and higher levels the somewhat lower armor classes required...

Island-based Civilization Ideas - Need Help!

That's a great idea - I wasn't aware of the history of the island and it definitely sounds easily adaptable. :)

Island-based Civilization Ideas - Need Help!

The general idea is that the continent was ruled by "demons" that collected a variety of civilizations from other parts of the world to use as slaves and food, in addition to the natives of the continent. So the population before the cataclysm was very diverse to begin with, without any single...

Very interesting idea - definitely more in line of what I'm looking for! Thank you!

Island-based Civilization Ideas - Need Help!

I definitely won't be using anything silly - wouldn't fit the tone of the campaign at all - but even a silly idea might be adaptable. For example, with a salt water sea, the commodity of fresh water could be valuable in certain areas / situations. :) Really what I'm looking are one or two...

Island-based Civilization Ideas - Need Help!

I like the replies so far - several echo ideas I've already developed, which is a good sign. :) I'd like to see some more ideas for civilizations and cultures. Here's what I've developed so far as examples: http://www.the6elements.com/setting/world.php#other Thanks again and keep the great...

Island-based Civilization Ideas - Need Help!

I’ve found some great ideas in various threads here and hope I can draw upon the creative minds here to assist me with my upcoming, sea-faring 3.5 D&D campaign. :) I need (at least) a few dozen ideas for island based civilizations & cultures. I’m looking for short, one or two sentence...

What weird props do you use?

Tons of letters, maps, etc. (using handwritten style fonts and Photoshop, have burned edges and such as well). I try to include at least one physical item for the players to inspect / touch per adventure. NPC Cards with pictures and physical descriptions for all "named" NPCs that I stand on...

    Best Quotes of GenCon

I was in that session as well and thought the exact same thing: "Wow, if this guy is going to pony up $100 to get in, this game has got to be friggin' GREAT!" About an hour into it, I was really kicking myself...a hundred freakin' bucks! sigh... :\
