    "d52" Diceless Resolution Mechanic

This is a great idea, I'm going to try to talk some of my players into giving it a shot for an adventure. Dave

    Speeding up combat

    1) Get the players some liquor 2) Tell, don't ask, the players what their characters do on each activation 3) Don't bring your own dice, and forbid the players from bringing dice 4) Don't bring any rule books That ought to speed things up. ;) Dave

Not Everyone Is Interested In Being Taken Out Of Context

Insert random Freud comment here. True. However, quite a few regular readers of ENWorld didn't post there. Deep breath everyone. Dave

    d20 Modern+Urban Arcana=D&D???

I have this annoying tendency to play d20 Modern characters as D&D characters. Everyone else is playing infiltrator/hacker/command types, and there's Dave playing his katana-wielding, in-your-face martial artist. I really like some of the flexibility with d20 Modern's spell users, and I like...

Previews for Dungeon 150 and Dragon 359 (September 2007)

It would be nice to see a "History of Dragon Comics" article giving access to some of the more memorable cells over the life of the magazine. Of course, I'm sure you guys are already packed to the rafters with "It would be nice if" suggestions. Dave

D&D 4E Star Wars Saga Edition as preview of 4e?

New Critical Hit System? http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=starwars/article/SagaPreview5 Critical Hits To speed up game play further, we simplified the way that critical hits work. In Saga Edition, a natural 20 is an automatic critical hit that deals double damage. All weapons default to...

Demonweb maps - now featuring Scott Rouse question

Six double-sided maps? That's a lot more maps than we've gotten in the past. Maybe twice a year? Probably $25. Unless each pack has non-skirmish maps. Then more like $15 to $20 (depending upon the numebr of skirmish maps). If you're including re-runs of older maps, then probably $15 to...

Help me fix power attack in my lower-AC campaign

Just change the numbers. Instead of +1 damage for every -1 attack, change it to +2 damage for every -3 attack, or +1 damage for every -2 attack, or something like that. Dave

Gencon Follies: My boiling point (rant/question)

I don't have much to add. I've made almost every GenCon since about '93, and a went to a few in the 80s. I like going, I love the Exhibits, usually the games are fun, and it's basically my only vacation every year. That said, it is tiresome all the weird glitches and problems that come up...

What do you think of Modrons?

Demons and devils and possibly some kinds of angels are all we need. All the extra fluff is just too much. I like my fantasy to be, um, normal. Dave

    Excel based Character Sheet

HeroForge is fantastic. It could only be made better by being made compatible with Open Office. Dave

Making Reflex Save into Defense, but Keeping the Other Saves

I'm not opposed to opposed rolls. But, as a DM who often has 6 to 10 players, and often runs 10+ hour sessions, I think a lot more can get done at the table if there are fewer rolls to resolve things. Even an incorporeal check, or a conceal check, or whatever, is a degree of complication...

    How to un-cheese D&D?

Sadly, I think the best way to do this is to do what you describe--convert everything you want to use into stuff that's appropriate for the CFL (Cheese Factor Level), :), of your campaign. Dave

Too many supplements a cause for burnout?

It can be tiresome, I think; but it hasn't caused burnout for me. Yes, though I see that more from the player's in my son's campaign than from the players in my campaign. I credit this to his friends being teenagers and having more time on their hands, and my friends being 40-somethings with no...

    The Feeding of Giants

I suppose we ought to be relying as much as possible on real-world biology and stuff here, since we're not using "handwaving" or magic to take care of the problem. The giants seems like a mammal, and, of the mammals, seems most closely to resemble the primates. Of the primates, most giants...

I love Irony, WotC forums Down Again

The paranoid freak in me wants to believe it's intentional. The rational guy in me says that this is a simple consequence of a big business being composed of departments that don't have a clue what the other departments are up to, or why it would matter to their customers. Dave

    D&D 4E My faith for 4e crumbles

With any luck, we'll see soem hints about 4e D&D in the new Star Wars stuff, and, hopefully, more hints in another system (such as the elsewhere-mentioned possibility of a new d20 Modern release). What would be nice, of course, woud be to see a "4.0" d20 Modern release that came with its own...

    Theories/Opinions on WotC's Plan

I agree, and I hope that this is basically correct. Considering how much smaller the other games are, compared to D&D, it would be very wise for them to test things out in the smaller markets first, get a firm grip on 4e for D&D, and then work out the bugs. I can't imagine anyone at WotC is...

What do you want to ask WotC?

Steve Winter (WotC_Huscarl), at the end of January 2007, wrote an article on Contributing Articles for D&D Miniatures. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=782667 Can we expect something like this for D&D generally? Can we expect community contribution as part of the expected path...

Job Opening at WotC - Apply for Mike Mearls old job

I'd love to work in some such capacity, and for Wizards. And, I have the qualifications, it appears. However, I have the lives of my wife and kids to consider, and the timing could be better. So, best of luck to everyone else who applies. Dave
