    Should Epic Be In PH1?

Epic should be done right when it's done, and it should be different from normal play. Wait on it. Get 1-20 done right in the core, then put a team to work planning out and building epic as a later book for the small fraction of groups who start there/get there.

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

Quoted for awesomeness. Also, I think I know why Knight will never succeed as a class name - everything you traditionally picture as a "Knight" - heavy armor, fearsome in melee, etc is pretty much already covered under "Fighter". The only thing left is chivalry, which means Knight will always be...

D&D 4E What should 5e do to pull in 4e players?

Yes yes yes to this. I understand that you need some default story as a building block, but setting specific material should be setting specific material.

Should we get rid of demons and devils?

    Obvious trolling is obvious.

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

It's got issues, no argument. But it's got history now and I think it's important to recognize that.

So what races and classes do we consider core?

Oh, yeah, I don't disagree with that. "Race" and "Class" are as much D&D as "Hit Points" and "Armor Class". If you're designing a brand new RPG, then talk about race vs species - if you're doing the next edition of D&D, you have Race and you have Class. End of discussion.

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

As someone who's played and loved a Warlord, I want that name to remain. Warlord was one of the most important and significant advances of 4e, and I think it's important to acknowledge that they've earned their right to "Core" status if you're going to get 4e players into 5e. I could accept...

D&D 4E What should 5e do to pull in 4e players?

It's supposed to be an edition for all of us, right? 4e lovers need to be courted into 5e, the same as 3e, pathfinder, 2e, OD&D, etc. As a 4e lover, here are the most important things I want to keep and a few I want to change: Keep: 1) Non-caster classes who can do awesome things. I'm not...

So what races and classes do we consider core?

Actually, fantasy is quite compatible with modern social mores, and is pretty progressive in some ways. Heroines were extremely rare in the middle ages, but are relatively commonplace in modern fantasy. The damsel in distress is a distant trope, and magic being available to all sexes makes a...

Do WotC people still post on ENWorld?

Been a couple of years since I was here (new edition obv dragged me out of the woodwork). Do Mearls and people like that still post on here? Have we seen them responding at all to any of the stuff on here since the announcement?

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

Yep. There's an archetype of player (which definitely includes me) that constantly wants to correct the other players if they're doing something that seems tactically horrible. It's a lot easier for that type of player to not be obnoxious when instead of saying "my god, why isn't your character...

    D&D 5E The Rogue in 5e

It's a core archetype - the hero who's fast, not strong. Mobility and flash are the basic needs of the rogue - you can get to places that the woman in plate armor and the man with the long flowing robes with arcane symbols on them can't get to. You also have the ability to cleverly dispose of...

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

There's been a lot of time and pop culture gone by since then. Cleric is pretty firmly set in most people's consciousness with glowing spheres of white light surrounding their hands. Even Paladin is more aligned with the 1e cleric than Cleric is now.

Saving Throws: What Should Become of Them?

I hate saving throws in all varieties. What they basically say is "something horrible is happening, but you can roll a die to stop it maybe". Use the 4e defences system or something similar to keep the "fort/reflex/will" aspect that is ingrained in D&D, but let's kill all the "skip your turn"...

What non-D&D RPGs should D&D look at for inspiration?

3rd vote for Savage Worlds. Really does a good job of slimming down and speeding up gameplay in a lot of ways. And I know it is already in the mix due to Mike Mearls being the boss these days, but Iron Heroes is something I would still play today.

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

Yeah, that's what I was shooting for with the last line. If we're going to see a "4 classes with modules" build, then no need for anything beyond fighter/cleric/thief/wizard. If we're going with something like 3e/4e with 7-8 classes in the first PHB, then I think Warlord definitely deserves to...

Bring back the exposed boobs on the Monsters!

No, no, no, no. There is enough cheesecake art out there to last a lifetime. Something like this is far more along the lines I want them to push the art: Women Fighters In Reasonable Armor

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

I saw someone in the Fighter thread saying that Fighter was the class that 4e did best. I think there's a lot of validity to that - while caster implementation was divisive for people, the Martial classes from the 4e PHB all did a great job of making their classes step up and be more valuable...

    I can't keep doing it

Seriously people, let's keep our perspective. I play Magic competitively, and we shell out for a new "edition" every 3 months, and our editions (aka playsets of important tournament cards) cost 3-4x as much as a D&D edition.

    goliath path and powers

The most fun, actually, is a Goliath with the racial path who multi-classes spiked chain for the multi-class utility power. Combine it with the Warden form mentioned earlier, and you can have threatening reach 4 for one encounter a day.
