What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

I don't think anyone here has said they have to have slavery (or whatever touchy subject) in all of their games....they are saying when slavery (or other touchy subjects) are no longer a crayon in the box a game becomes less colorful.

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

Other than child brides the Star Wars movies have all this and more. I've not heard an outcry that kids shouldn't watch those films. Perhaps the depth to which something is explored is as important as the topic itself.

The Greatest Computer Games of All Time (Apple 2 Edition)

I'm gonna go with Wizardry. I was navigating that maze at 8 years old on my older brothers green monochrome Apple II. This would have been around 81. At roughly the same time one of my brothers regifted me two really cool boxes from his closet (Basic/Expert box sets) and here I am today. The...

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

What I've learned from this thread is that a decent number of people seem to hate spell schools. It's odd to me since, other than 4e, spell schools have always been tied into multiple crunchy bits of the rules.

    D&D General Describing Actions

I would never want to be at a table where someone added narration to each and every action they took in the game. I'd find it monotonous. I like narration being the spice, not the main course. Gimme a cool description of that 130 damage crit, sure, but I don't need to hear you describe how...

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

Isn't a person's story their entire life timeline, though? Why are you giving someone grief because they find parts of a biography more crucial than you do? My wife might find their story interesting because they were a birder...and I might because they were left handed. There isn't one right...

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

And as a separate topic to reply to....you can't credit a ruleset for having guidelines for situation X when the GM made up those guidelines themselves. That's just a good GMing. 5e was designed to let GMs riff of of a few basic systems to provide on the fly "rulings, not rules". This was a...

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

I use spell schools all the time when I'm GMing. At least once an adventure if not more often. Lots of investigstion plots can use spell schools. 5e has wizard picking schools as a subclass. You are defining roleplay much narrower than I am. Roleplay functionality is anything that I can...

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

Lots of people have chimed on on my post, but i'm going to reply to yours as a general answer to everyone. Here is what I mean by an amazing tactical skirmish game but not so amazing role-playing game. Look at the difference in presentation of these three identical things.... 3e Fireball 4e...

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

Your bottom bullet point is my overall thought about 4e. It's an amazing tactical skirmish ruleset...but not so much an amazing roleplaying game. Id be surprised if more than 10% of the crunch in 4e was non-combat related.

D&D Movie/TV Guess the D&D Movie Opening Weekend Box Office Performance, and Win a Prize!

Just want to explain my extremely low bid with the disclaimer that I think that weekend will be filled with NCAA Final Four basketball mania...not moviegoing. Without that I'd have shot for the mid teens.

D&D (2024) Am I crazy, or did they just turn Stealth into full Ninja mode?

My apologies, I missed that bit. That addresses the biggest "hole" I saw in it.

D&D (2024) Am I crazy, or did they just turn Stealth into full Ninja mode?

The issue with "on watch" is that most humans (which we use as a baseline for how we view most DnD beings) can't intensely watch for long periods of time. Two can split the work up better than one, and three better than two. I think Passive Perception is just the"normal state" all particular...
