If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Food for thought... What would be the results of casting Harm on a subject that already has less than 1d4 hit points? (I.e., zero or negative.) How about it heals them up to +1d4 hp, letting them get back on their feet? (Actually, if I had a player goofy enough to try that, I think I'd rule...

    New Shield Spell Questions

So I guess if you can see the invisible shield, the wizard now has concealment, too. And if the wizard can see invisible, does his shield grant his opponents concealment? (I opine in the negative, FWIW.) -AK

    New Shield Spell Questions

The bit about the disk moving looks like it's justifying the shield not interfering with the character's attacks. I don't believe this is sufficient basis for allowing the vision-enhanced attacker to negate the shield with a prepared action. In-game rationalization... the attacker sees the...

    Disarm attempts... who wins?

And for an opposing viewpoint... I've always thought of the defender making a saving throw against disarm/trip/grapple attacks, with the attacker determining the DC to save against... meaning tie goes to the defender. Just pick one and run with it, I guess. -AK

    Halfling w/ whip.

Re: Re: Halfling w/ whip. Okay, I'm just blind. I re-read that passage recently, and it registered as "ranged weapon" instead of "projectile weapon". Thanks for the clarification! -AK

    Halfling w/ whip.

A whip is a ranged weapon. Ranged weapons are mostly projectile (requiring a launcher, like a bow or sling) or thrown (like a javelin or dart). (Or rays/cones, but let's keep magic out of this for the moment.) Is a whip a thrown weapon, a projectile weapon, or the sole member of another...

Bracers of Striking & weapon adjustment spells

Okay, I can't let that one pass. Sorry, I'm not the person you're addressing, and I do not presume to speak for Caliban, but this is just too much. The first quote is obviously made in regards to filling the role of DM. The second is (also obviously) as a player. The incongruity you're...

    Does Blink and Displacement stack?

Re: Re: Does Blink and Displacement stack? Are you sure the false image shares the spellcaster's invisibility? Perhaps the images from illusion spells can still be seen when the spellcaster can't. Might be a neat way to hide a mage. Turn invisible and cast displacement and/or mirror image...

    Shield Spell

Just because we don't have enough exceptions yet , the shield spell stacks with shields that offer an armor bonus. A tower shield provides a cover bonus, and would not stack with the shield spell. -AK I nominate this topic for the most-resurrected forum topic of all time. (What...

How (many ways) to describe "feint"?

Picking nits... I'm pretty sure feint is a standard, not full-round, action. You can move during a turn in which you feinted, and I believe a hasted combatant can feint and attack in the same round. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. (Like anyone ever needs to type that on these boards. Heh...

    Bucklers for monks?

Ya beat me to it, KD! It's why I specifically mentioned tower shield. (The cover also helps reflex saves, btw.) Not much of a deterrent, IMHO. Here's another one the rules don't mention... Can an opponent snatch your animated shield, in the manner of an ioun stone? -AK

    +30 to Exclusive Skills?

    Sneak attacks around corners

Or pull off a successful bluff check to divert the target's attention. Couldn't attack the same round, though (barring haste). Lidda: Look! It's the tarrasque! Victim: Where!? Where!? Hey, I don't see any... where'd she go? -AK

    Bucklers for monks?

Actually, I'm not attempting anything covert in this instance. I'm just wondering why an animated tower shield isn't part of every mid-level-or-higher monk/wizard equipment package. The +2 bonus price seems pretty cheap for freeing up an arm and getting cover with no check penalties. -AK
