    D&D 5E D&D Up 35% In 2020 While Virtual Play Rises 86%

I've been wondering what an updated version of 5e might look like, and I'm really not sure. I don't think there's any chance of a new edition within the foreseeable future. But there is now a lot more material for it, and there's been some talk about a more compiled edition - a 2e to 5e's 1e...

D&D 5E Tasha's Optional Class Features - Using Them or Not?

So interestingly - my Oath of the Ancients paladin was originally created using the Protection style. It worked well for what he was doing, but when we redid things after Tasha's came out, I swapped it for the one that gets you cantrips. (He didn't really have any good ranged attacks). Which...

D&D 5E 20th level Sorcerer vs the world

So, let's see... 57 hit points? And we're allowed to know roughly where he is, but not exactly because he's a "master of disguise", right? Sleep. Sleep will always target the creature with the lowest number of HP in its area first. All the minions have at least 60-odd, so as long as you pick...

Okay, I guess I got the wrong impression, then.

Blog (A5E) A Sneak Peek At Magic

Which is my point. In this one example, you have a significant difference in damage output between monsters using fireball in normal 5e and LU. That's with only a small number of spells shown, but the intent is clear to provide essentially an entirely rewritten spellbook. It will not take many...

Blog (A5E) A Sneak Peek At Magic

Okay, caveat: LevelUp is not for me. I'm looking at this out of curiosity, but I have no interest in the end product. That said, looking at the stated design goals, I am curious how you are planning to reconcile them. Okay, the LevelUp website says that it will be compatible with "All your...

    D&D 5E A new spell for review

I would go with something like this: Casting time: 1 Reaction, which you take when you receive damage that would drop you to 0hp (Note! This would not take effect if you are outright killed, such as by Power Word: Kill. I would call that a feature, tbh)

D&D 5E A First Look at Tasha’s Lineage System In AL Player’s Guide - Customizing Your Origin In D&D

Hmm. I'm sure there will be people who want this to go further, but... this is honesty not bad. It's enough leeway to break open chargen to a larger design space (I quite like the example of the musical elf). Main downside, I think, is that it seems simple and obvious. Maybe that's a good...

D&D 5E "Consistent Attack" -- Is this TOO powerful?

There are, I think, too many possible actions that could be taken. Rather than listing the exclusions, I think I would list what actions allowed you to take it. As something to improve the fighter, I would probably do something like this: Your training has taught you to stay on the offensive...

    D&D 5E What's fun about being a DM?

The balancing act. Making the players feel like they succeeded at something that was difficult, but still ensuring that they can succeed. Coming up with answers to the crazy ideas the PCs spout. Seeing how the PCs come up with answers to the crazy ideas I spout. Feeling the world I have planned...

D&D 5E Icewind Dale Preview: The Panopticon

You know... the design of that really reminds me of Baldur's Gate II. So many of its environments were circular or oval shapes (I have wondered if part of the reason for that is them getting a little carried away with not being limited to square tile environments, as so many games before had been).

D&D 5E The New D&D Book: Tasha's Cauldron of Everything!

(Yeah, I'm a day in the past. So sue me). I just got out of a long meeting looking at tiny text on videoconference slides, and with my blurry vision I misread this as "Oath of Hedonism". That would be a ... different... sort of Paladin.

D&D 5E How to convince better half

Play games. Make sure she knows she's welcome to join, but doesn't have to. Don't make it an obligation in any form, just something she could choose to do. Most importantly, if she's never interested - accept it.

D&D 5E Icewind Dale Preview: The Panopticon

If nothing else... A prison like this would be a "great" place to be locked inside with, say, a mysterious eldritch body-horror shapeshifter...

    Level Up (A5E) 3.99 Edition

... Seriously, it's great to see people excited, and I look forward to what gets produced. But how is this not edition warring?

D&D 5E Best MultiClass character build? Why?

Well, you need INT 13 to multiclass. Everything else in the build assumes you never get more - the spells are ones that don't depend on attack roles or saving throws, and are useful out of combat or before it. In combat, the most common things to use would be Longstrider and Invisibility, and...

D&D 5E Best MultiClass character build? Why?

How do you define "Best"? I mean, here's a character concept from my pile of "Would love to play": Probably something like STR 15, DEX 12, CON 14, INT 13, WIS 10, CHA 8 Level 1: Barbarian. Levels 2-4 or 2-6: Wizard (School of War Magic) Levels [5,7]+: Barbarian. For subclass, several work...

DDAL Simulacrum can it be twinned.

That's not how the spell is written - it just takes the hit point maximum. If you had an effect which decreased your HPM, your simulacrum would have a decreased hp total, too. I mean, I still probably wouldn't let a group get away with this sort of cheese :)

DDAL Simulacrum can it be twinned.

... So, you need to be a Cleric/Wizard, then. Cast Simulacrum. The simulacrum then casts Aid on itself at the highest level it can, and casts Simulacrum... (I'm having fun trying to decide exactly how I wouldn't let this work. There are some really interesting options!)

D&D 5E Rime of the Frostmaiden Previews Include a Scroll of Tarrasque Summoning

... This has reminded me of a lovely plan that can not only defeat a tarrasque within a single round, but also produces a worse problem than a tarrasque: Arrange to have it attacked by a large number of intellect devourers (I don't recall the maths to calculate how many you need to have a 90%...
