Varianor,
Thanks for the comments! I do agree with Frank's comments. I'm going to leave that first dragon pic as is, but some of my more current work reflects my focus on contrasts to make it easier to pull out the images.
Here's one of the more recent ones to give you an idea:
Frankthedm,
Thanks for the comments! Yeah, the first one is pretty busy. I really just did that one as a doodle (meaning there was no overall direction when I was working on it). Because of that, it does suffer from a business that can be distracting, but it really felt like it was in the...
Thanks Bastion! You can check out my gallery in my sig for more (I have a few more pics that I'll be adding to the gallery soon). Here's one I did for the cover of a now defunct (I think) ezine. This one is a little less on the old school feel than the first, but it gives some idea of my...
Heya Gang. Just wanted to make a quick post and show off a sample of my work. I tend to do mostly B&W line art sort of in the vein of the great 1e artists. I do color as well and will be doing some accrylic paintings. I'm currently working on an OSRIC project that will feature some of my...
Just to echo what some have said around here, both are pretty good. I too find that Necro's stuff tends to have more on the fleshed out story side, while DDCs are a good dungeon romp (at least from the ones I've read so far). So it really just depends on what you are looking for in your game.
Colonel,
Greetings from Okinawa, Japan! I just wanted to chime in with the others and say thanks for the 25 or so years of gaming you have given me. Your works have been a constant source of inspirtation and have fuled my imagination like nothing else. I can't wait to introduce my son Bear...
From a kneejerk reactionary perspective, I like to roll stats. I don't know, it's just a game in and of itself. However, from a practical stand point of giving the players the concepts that they want, I'm not opposed to point buy.
I'm in Okinawa Japan and I can't access the site from home but can at work. It is interesting to note that I'm not the only one. I've tried from home on my XP box and my Linux box and no go. It sucked not having Enworld for the weekend, heh.
Cool. I've been wondering what was going on with the rest of the series. I figure the gang over at Troll Lords is pretty busy right now. It looks like things are ramping up for them pretty good and I say congrats!
You know, I found the anonymous person's entry was actually quite cool. It really captured an "old school" feel to the art somewhere along the lines of David Sutherland. I know it is no as flashy or as technically skilled as the other entries, but something about it just works for me.
Yeah, I think the dice tip it for me too. I like to have all those many sided dice in a gaming session. d4,d6,d8,d10,d12,d20.....I don't know why but there is just something magical about a bag full of all those polyhedrons.
I'm not sure the definitions are meaningless, but they do seem to have a variation of meaning to different people. For example, when I think of old school gaming, I think of my early gaming experiences in the early 1980's with 1e AD&D and the Moldovay boxed sets. Now Old school to others...
Personally I think this is a great idea. I can understand those who don't like it but it does make sense to me. Again, just my opinion, but I can appreciate the symbology that someone else can readily identify and strike up a conversation. I like to play a lot of different games and having a...
For me it really just depends. If the characters are in a published setting as opposed to a homebrew, if the players want to create new characters in the same setting they last played in, etc. So I guess there would be a range of factors to consider when ending a campaign and starting a new...
I was just curious as to what degree if any that henchmen and hirelings play in your games? It seems that when I was younger and played 1e, that these characters were intrinsic fixtures in the game world. It was really cool to get up around mid levels and have your own entourage of helpers and...
