    A campaign I'm fed up with. . .

Well, in all fairness, if I have a supernatural ability, it would have to be the ability to organize a successful game. I'm only sort of joking, if I had friends from my gaming past who posted here, they'd attest to this. I have a knack for finding the right players, gm, place to play, day...

    Stats for Tolkien Elves

The more I think about it...the more I am fairly certain that Tolkien's Elves are just naturally better. Yes, some of it can be explained by experience and knowledge. But it's not like Tolkien envisioned them gaining character levels and feats.

Good advice, I think I'm just trying to bandaid too many issues with one solution.

Explain why DMPCs are bad to me.

I have to say it depends on the game some too. People in D&D seem to balk at it a bit more if they have had a bad experience with it. However, in Champions (Hero), I always have a few DMPCs that rotate out. I like to keep a comic bookish, team themed game. And in something like Justice League...

Explain why DMPCs are bad to me.

I guess it's just semantics. I would consider a DMPC to be a type of NPC. We first started using DMPCs because we'd have 3-4 of us who took turns DMing, all in the same world with the same characters. Your DMPC kind of took more of a background role, but continued developing, gaining stuff...

I agree that would be best, but I was hoping for something that would be reasonably playable at 2nd level.

Ok...question, would you consider this broken if I made two "True Elven" races with adjustments like... +2 str, +4 dex, +2 con - Wood Elf +2 dex, +2 int, +2 wis, +2 cha - High Elf. Add in Timeless (doesn't age basically) and replace low-light vision with 60' Darkvision and make it +1 LA...

Explain why DMPCs are bad to me.

I run a DMPC when the group is on the smallish side (only 3 players). I never let my DMPC take the spotlight...or at least, very rarely will it take the spotlight, sometimes it just works out that way. I don't let me DMPC break the rules. I make sure it's a class, race and personality that...

    A campaign I'm fed up with. . .

Ok, in all fairness, I've never sat through a bad game with strangers. But if I have a set of friends I game with and enjoy spending time with...and one of them wants to step behind the screen and give GM'ing a shot...then I have put up with some pretty atrocious games. I'm not going to say...

    A campaign I'm fed up with. . .

No offense intended to Nightchilde, so please don't take this like I'm aiming it at you. But too often I think the advice here when you run into a "bad" game is to burn your bridges. Am I the only one whose suffered through a bad game, because its better than no game at all? Thankfully, it's...

    White Wolf and CCP merge...

I would imagine that each company is supposed to be bringing its strengths to the table. CCP is very familiar with the technology, network and server side of all of this. Meanwhile, White Wolf studios is one of the best groups of designers and writers available. If they can build a bridge to...

    Stats for Tolkien Elves

I think you make some really good points. As to Deathless...I have to ask, would I adjust for this at all really? For game purposes there is no practical difference between this and the LONG lifespan of Elves in D&D as it is. Sure, this is more powerful, but I'm not certain I'm willing to...

    A powergamer in a non-powergame.

See, I respect your opinion, but I disagree. I think most of it depends on the skill of the GM. Some of the most skilled GMs I've ever played with changed the game radically...and it was definitely NOT a crutch for them. They could have run the game right out of the book, but chose not too...

    A powergamer in a non-powergame.

I've very, very rarely ever played in a game I didn't enjoy. I am lucky right now to be in a game I like quite a bit, but that hasn't always been the case. Basically, I manage by: - Checking my preconceptions at the door - Adapting my style of play to the GMs campaign - Finding my niche or...

    Stats for Tolkien Elves

The "Elves" thread in General got me to thinking. If you were going to include a Tolkien-style Elf as a choice in your game, how would you stat it out? Obviously it would be a +LA of some sort, but what exactly. I was thinking I might do it in two versions... A low powered and a high powered...

    Make up some funny quotes!

"Kick down the door and spit on the floor is a perfectly valid tactic." "What did you call this again, an advancing retreat?" "Otyugh, it's what's for dinner." Famous Barbarian Trainer: Wait until he makes the funny sounds and wiggles his fingers, then brain 'im. "What do you mean you...

Are zombies "smart" enough to take AoO's?

I let Zombie's take AoOs, because I believe they take any opportunity they can to strike out at you. However, my Zombie's also provoke a lot of AoOs on themselves, because they just don't know any better.

Compelling the PC's to an unknown destination... how?

They find the remains of an explorer (adventurer) whose somewhat cryptically worded diary details the lost civilization and theorizes on the massive amounts of unguarded treasure just waiting to be cataloged.
