THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

There ya go! Brownie points to you, sir or madam.

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

Yes, halflings are somewhat "mischevious" ... BECAUSE THE DESIGNERS WROTE THEM THAT WAY. That's the point -- they could have tweaked any "niche" in almost any manner to justify anything as an iconic race. But for personal reasons they decided gnomes lacked personality, and then they made it so...

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

After reading the background and explanation for the elven races/cultures, it makes the gnome dismissal text seem horrendously justified by comparison.

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

I respect your gnome-hating position. No problem there. (I've always sort of felt the same way about halflings.) You get the point in that second paragraph, though, and for that I give you kudos.

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

Oh. That's so much clearer. I can understand why we needed at least two different elves now. None -- that's the point. They were written out of the book so that we could have more elves. The designers seem to have run dry on ideas after their massive elfgasm.

THREE elven races, plus half-elves ... but they say gnomes have no niche?!

So the designers feel they can justify teensy little differences between elves and "feywild" elves, and even evil dark-skinned drow elves, just enough to toss them into the PHB as iconic classes -- with comments that half-elves will still be around, too -- but they can't come up with enough of a...

Thanks for recognizing that I'm already tied up by other writing commitments. Still, though, your support is appreciated. I didn't expect it.

    R&C: Halflings...

    Merely to provide material for discussion or curiosity... Here are some measurements of a human male shrunk or enlarged evenly while maintaining his original proportions: 8'2" ... 400# 7'7" ... 320# 6'10" ... 240# 6'5" ... 200# base: 6'0" ... 160# 5'6" ... 120# 5'1" ... 100# 4'1" ... 50#

    R&C: Halflings...

Oh, man, wouldn't that be a hoot? The design of an erect humanoid starts running into problems even at twice normal height. Can you imagine how wonky it would be if they tried to justify the biology of someone 20-foot-tall or more? Posted on a similar thread, but worth repeating: Yes, humans...

Why are they making demi-humans taller?

Math and proportions. Yes, humans who inherit the genetic markers for dwarfish (aka "little people," NOT midgets) may have certain average-size adult body parts. There are a few variants on the condition. The most common is achondroplasia -- 70 percent of cases -- which results in shortened...

    Races and Classes--I has it!

$20 for such a thin paperback is steep, especially as a marketing promo book. It's not worth the price. $10 easily. $14 maybe. But not $20. And I'm offended that they blatantly admitted they can't define the gnome race well enough to include in the PHB. I blame it on a lack of effort and...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

I find the bright red "threat" text of an angry moderator to be very, very exciting. You know, exciting in THAT way. ;) Anyone want to disagree with me so I can call you a moron? HUH??? Anyone?! Come on, ya big wussies!....

... And don't forget bears that only some characters can see. Selectively invisible bears. That's interesting.

re choosing magic missile, fireblast and burning hands: Any idea yet whether at-will and per-encounter macros will be attached to a particular key, or will they let you move them around your keyboard?

    Races and Classes--I has it!

I found some copies on the shelf Sunday at one of our major book store chains. It didn't seem right to read it yet, so I told a manager about the release date and he pulled them right away.

    Groundhog Day

Trombonists and (legal) mushroom farmers. The bathroom, on the toilet, smack-dab in the middle of a ... "moment." Hero System. ALWAYS Hero System. Hyper-elongated dachsunds. Weiner dogs that stretch for about two or three yards (or more), with extra legs to support the mass -- think...

    Wizard Traditions

I hope they include a tradition that focuses on tall, pointy hats. And another that requires long, flowing beards for successful spellcasting. I'm still not sure about a robes-based tradition.
