    10:1 illegal downloads

Seconded. There've been scans and even OCR versions on the P2P-networks before anyone even offered them as a legal download. Wizards should take the additional sales they get from the PDFs and stop complaining. To me, and certainly to many other players, a PDF is a useful supplement (for...

Unarmed Strike as Weapon Group Feat?

Yessir, I think it's a fine idea. This way, you also get to streamline armed/unarmed combat a bit. Monks shouldn't get it for free, though, as they do now.

    Wizards and healing spells

Thanks everyone for the ample feedback. Even though not everything was strictly on-topic, I noticed a lot of good thoughts. So here's what I'll do: I'll let the wizard research healing spells (and possibly other spells from other classes' spell lists), but these are going to be of a higher spell...

    Wizards and healing spells

It has come to it at last, our group's wizard is hellbent on researching cure-spells and I as the GM cannot come up with a believable reason why he shouldn't be allowed to. I mean, in AD&D it was fairly easy as I recall, as the rule went "Arcane spells cannot restore lost HP or cure detrimental...

Size bonus to AC - drop it?

Okay there's a bunch of issues here: 1) Lowering special size modifier is a good idea. Why? Because fighting monsters two size categories different from you will inevitably lead to one side head locking the other. Which would surely be a realistic thing (cf. the bear situation, above), but just...

    Mage Armor and DR

Since it's bonus type is "armor", you have to divide the bonus it provides by 2 and subtract the resulting DR value to gain the final AC bonus. Mage Armor gives you +4; divide by 2 equals DR 2; subtract from 4 equals 2. Final boni: AC +2, DR 2/-.

D&D 3E/3.5 Immortal, from Book of Templates 3.5

That depends on how you want to run the campaign. A character who doesn't need to eat, drink or breathe, who is immune or at least resistant to most special attacks and environmental hazards seems like a pretty boring thing to me. Where does he get his motivation from? He is, after all...

    New Metallica album: 'Death Magnetic'

Strange that there isn't a thread on this yet, so here we go. The band posted 6 (in words: six) songs from the new album on their homepage: http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=601197 That's quite a departure from their previous web strategy, i.e. suing the pants off everyone who dared posting or...

And the new Catwoman is ...

Well, people at least seem to agree that everything points at a female villain, be it Catwoman as a master-thief or Poison Ivy as an eco-terrorist. I'm not so familiar with the comics, but maybe there are other lady criminals that could fit into this realistic and gritty Batman universe Nolan...

    Revisionist wiki?

I think it's a great idea. People could navigate to a specific topic and find all variant rules listed there underneath the original SRD.

Pathfinder 1E Hit Point Inflation and Power Creep in Pathfinder

It is only a one-time-bonus, but tying it to the score of the ability can be dangerous, as it generates a huge range of possible values (1-20 that is). I'd use a fixed number + (Str) modifier instead to keep the figures closer together and stay in line with the rest of the ruleset (which uses...

Pathfinder 1E Hit Point Inflation and Power Creep in Pathfinder

That would put Str waaay over the top. It is already the most important ability score (along with Dex, says the DMG). Can't tie it to Con, as cats would again have the same hit points as humans. What you could do, however, is create a table of bonus HP according to size and type. So a medium...

And the new Catwoman is ...

What makes everyone so certain that Catwoman (or the Rddler, for that matter) is even going to be in a third movie? I can't imagine Catwoman being part of Jon & Chris Nolan's Batman universe. Granted, I never read the comics, but her on-screen-appearances are simply too cartoonish to fit in...

    Reshuffling Skills ...

Concerning the language skill: I love the system used in Midnight, according to which there are three different levels of competency (pidgin, basic and fluent), as well as literacy. All characters start off illiterate and have to acquire literacy in each language separately. A high Int score...

Pathfinder 1E Hit Point Inflation and Power Creep in Pathfinder

Now that's an idea to get rid of all those ridiculously high natural armor bonuses high lvl monsters tend to possess. As for the suggested starting HP methods: I'd go with the racial or flat variety. While the racial one adds more flavor, it does seem to derail racial balance a bit, as the...

Pathfinder 1E Hit Point Inflation and Power Creep in Pathfinder

An easy solution we found in our (AD&D) group: simply roll lvl x (HD + Con-mod). You either get this value as your new HP or current HP +1 + Con-mod (minimum advancement), whichever is higher. There you have a random system, but the standard deviation is much closer to the mean value, making...

    trading backstory for some xp?

I'm mastering a star wars campaign (revised core book) and thought to implement xp-awards for good roleplaying, backstory, etc. The problem is that in star wars, any difference in experience doesn't disappear with time, but increases, causing the players to be of different levels a fair deal of...

Places That Feel D&D to You

First of all: thanks for bringing this up. This is an awesome question. Off the top of my head, I'd say St. Peter's. It is just like I picture a major deity's temple in the capital of a large empire. This probably applies more to St. Peter's square than the actual church, which is obviously...
