Death Spiral vs Starting at 1st Level - X-post from 'Death by Infelicitas'

It's a fascinating idea. I only see one problem: Level imbalance within a group. If someone has a 4th-level character and someone else has a 1st-level character, it seems unequal. This may work in practice but I find this hard to sell to my group and I'm also pretty sceptic about it.

Death by Infelicitas - Is it acceptable?

Well I feel that the existing options adequately cover all the options. I'm sorry if you don't agree. Any bias is unintended.

Death by Infelicitas - Is it acceptable?

Recently I made a 15 question query for my players (I hope someone asks me to show the questions ;)) and one of them was this: Can bad dice rolls kill characters? Can characters die at all? So far the players have been purely against such practice. One says that characters can only die from a...

    Hello From Morrus

My eyes are a bit tired so I read "henchman" first and felt disappointed. Good work, always takes guts to put yourself in front of the camera. I have about a dozen videos in Youtube of me talking. Heard lot of *hit but compliments too. One person said that I'm trying use my videos to hypnotize...

    (pure) scout builds

Hopefully not too off-topic but in my campaign the most powerful character ever created is a scout. Not a pure scout-built though: Scout 9/Barbarian 1. So far we have played 70 sessions. Scout has power - respect and love it :)

What reasons do people in your groups give for not wanting to GM?

I think in many cases the real reason is that the players are too difficult and/or demanding. If they weren't, it would be ok not to have a good grasp of the rules or to be uncreative or to have difficulties with the story etc. etc. With an easy group you would feel free to try out your wings...

MMO terms and tabletop, anyone completely ANNOYED by this?

Actually I like the fact that people use MMO terms in tabletop games. It's a very convenient way to determine if the player (or DM) is ruined for life. In the past we had to give players a CN character in order to find this out. Now it's easier. Yes, I hate those terms too. I like the word...

    Why do you GM?

I want a story that I like. So far IME there has never been a GM who has made me 100% happy about his/her game. I'm sure that the problem is with my self-centered nitpicky way. When I run games, I'm personally satisfied with them. And it's important to notice that I'm not saying that my games...

What setting would you like to see as RPG?

An old-fashioned vanilla fantasy setting with humans only. No dwarves, no elves, no gnomes, no halflings, no demihumans. One thing that has gotten me thinking about Game of Thrones is the lack of necessity for fantasy races. In my opinion all the stereotypes associated with fantasy races...

Can you help me to determine what alignment is this?

Your definition of lawful is logical Celebrim but IMO perhaps you should consider having it as a description of someone who is 100% through and through Lawful and who eats and poops law. People who aren't so stringently lawful should still be lawful. Greenfield mentioned "lawfuls" and "Lawfuls"...

Aspects of D&D that have made you fed up?

What rules or features of D&D have made you to consider burning your books? In my group there is a clear consensus against animal companions and familiars. "Oh no, another ******* rat!" is perhaps the best way to summarize our sentiment. The enormous and unfun zoo directed by druids, rangers...

I'm building an army to take over the Empire!

A thousand miles through the enemy territory? A foreign volunteer unit of collaborators has potential... Such as Europäische Freiwillige or something like that. It's always interesting to see those who should be fighting against you instead fighting on your side. I don't know about the enemy...

Can you help me to determine what alignment is this?

"I'm a knight and my Brotherhood always goes first. I love all my brothers but those that do not put brothers first always disappoint me. Some of my brothers go from battle to battle and war to war but they always let those greasy nobles - whom are NOT our brothers! - to come and rule the lands...

Political scheming for the good guys?

Great stuff! Almost all of this will be translated and going straight to my game! Thank you sir!

    Never Made Sense

What doesn't make sense is the irrationality of the people that make published adventures (whether they are published as stand-alone adventures or in Dungeon/Dragon magazine etc.). It seems that these people don't follow any sort of consistent logic at all. For instance, in the beginning of the...

Political scheming for the good guys?

Janx The PCs are influental heroes and the Pelorian faith is the dominant faith of the region. The PCs may let the chips fall where they may, but on the other hand they may wish to have some saying in the matter. Both the "Pope" and NG sect are quite willing to have local heroes supporting them...

Political scheming for the good guys?

You have a point, but in this case they LG sect want their faith to become stricter and more organized so it would better serve their views. Lawful by RAW indicates "honoring tradition" so I understand it's a bit awkward that such guys would like to change a functioning system. But like...

Political scheming for the good guys?

First I need to establish the negotiation tactics for the Pope. After this I can decide the reaction of the temple. Then the situation is presented to the players and they can choose sides, work against both parties, do as they please or simply forget about it, in a sort of sandbox-ish way.

Political scheming for the good guys?

Can you help me out with this dilemma? In my game there is Neutral Good religion (Pelor) which is suffering from a religious schism. The Lawful Good revisionist sect says that all temples should follow The One True Leader which is the "Pope". The Neutral Good conservative sect says that all...

What setting would you like to see as RPG?

Thief the Dark Project. Then publish an expansion Thief the Metal Age. The world already has incredible depth and potential for adventure. You don't even need a rogue to make it fun.
