I suppose that makes sense, if you follow/play with the official timeline. Sent from my iPhone using EN World

D&D 5E Mike Mearls on Settings

Nostalgia. It's like visiting with an old friend that you haven't seen in a while. Catch up, reminisce about old times a bit and see what's changed since the last time you were together. Sent from my iPhone using EN World mobile app

D&D 5E Mike Mearls on Settings

Exactly...but the rest of my players had the baggage aplenty and probably would have given the newbie (& me) hell if he showed up with a drow, especially a dual wielder (which was his first thought). Sent from my iPhone using EN World mobile app

D&D 5E Mike Mearls on Settings

I agree here completely. I enjoyed the Drizzt novels as a kid but haven't read any in the past two decades, but from what I remember in the earlier ones, Drizzt did have a lot of difficulty getting accepted everywhere he went and was seen as a bogeyman. Even Alustriel wouldn't let him into...

D&D 5E Mike Mearls on Settings

Actually, Greyhawk is the setting where drow were first introduced, via the GDQ series, which basically is a struggle against giants that reveals the drow (discovered for the first time) as the ones pulling the strings behind the scenes, with the latter half of the series pivoting away from...

D&D 5E Do you use all of the P.C. races and classes from the PHB?

The thing is that the game can be way less serious than he thinks, but it doesn't have to be. Sure, genre crossovers can be fun once in a while, but not every campaign needs to be a giant kitchen sink. Whether or not Gygax etc. had sci-fi and Old West elements in his home game, doesn't mean...

D&D 5E Pictures of the Role Playing Games bookshelves at Barnes & Noble

No pics, but the B&N at Derby Street Shoppes in Hingham, MA had most/all of the 5e books in stock when I was there recently, and a few 4e, but I do not recall seeing any PFRPG and I think I would have noticed as I used to be a big PF fan. That said, I was out of gaming entirely for about 7...

    D&D 5E Enhancing "Storm King's Thunder"

Did your players seek out the extra giant lords by their own choice, or did you change it so that each conch would only teleport a single individual? I am about to start a Storm King's Thunder campaign with 5 PCs an was considering that route when I get to that point, as using the ascending...

D&D 5E Oh god, not goblins again...

I don't think you're being fair to Shelob. She was an ancient evil, the last child of Ungoliant, from the earliest days of Middle Earth. That's no simple giant spider. Sent from my iPhone using EN World mobile app

D&D 5E Replacing Sculpt Spells feature for School of Evocation wizards?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Player is asking to sub it out for the Spell Sniper feat (spells that require an attack roll have their ranged doubled and ignore 1/2 or 3/4 cover, and you get a bonus cantrip of this sort). It seems to fit the flavor for an evoker so I am considering it...

D&D 5E Do you use all of the P.C. races and classes from the PHB?

Apologies to the folks who I offended or put off with the wording of my poll options, I thought that snarkiness was standard operating procedure for polls around here, but then [Joe Pesci] I've been away for a long time and they didn't go up there and tell me [/Joe Pesci]. Yes, I personally...

D&D 5E Replacing Sculpt Spells feature for School of Evocation wizards?

One of my players is aiming to roll up a wizard for our new campaign and is leaning towards School of Evocation for his arcane tradition, however neither he nor I are very happy with the Sculpt Spells feature as we feel like it actually makes things less interesting, strategically speaking, not...

D&D 5E What is Iymrith's full plan? (spoilers for Storm King's Thunder)

Yeah, a player map would be key for sure. You can buy the Sword Coast map from SCAG as a download direct from Mike Schley's site, and that's a start, but it doesn't have a lot of the sites that I would want on there from th SKT version. Sent from my iPhone using EN World mobile app

D&D 5E Do you use all of the P.C. races and classes from the PHB?

Yeah, I missed that drow were even in the PHB as a player option until one of my players suggested rolling one up earlier today. I discouraged him, for the exact reasons you outlined for "monsters" as PCs. Seems like he's leaning moon (high) elf now.

D&D 5E What is Iymrith's full plan? (spoilers for Storm King's Thunder)

That definitely seemed like an oversight. I'm figuring on her using a false name as a giant when I get to that point in my upcoming campaign. Are most folks using the same name for both?

D&D 5E Do you use all of the P.C. races and classes from the PHB?

Fair question. I just returned to D&D after a 8-9 year break. I played 3.5e, didn't like the look of 4e from what I heard and switched to Pathfinder for a couple of years, then dropped away from RPGs entirely in 2010 when my son was born due to lack of time. I just got sucked back in when my...

D&D 5E Do you use all of the P.C. races and classes from the PHB?

I'm curious as to whether or not most people have embraced all of the new races and classes from recent editions of D&D in their games? Personally, I am a bit of a traditionalist on this score, and while I am willing to concede that tieflings or dragonborn might exist to some degree in my...

D&D 5E Has anyone ever run an Arcane Age (FR) campaign?

I've recently been digging through some boxes of old D&D stuff in my basement and was looking at some of the Arcane Age supplements that came out late in the 2e era for Forgotten Realms. Netheril: Empire of Magic and Cormanthyr: Empire of the Elves detailed those two ancient (by present day FR...
