Lets put together all our lite-d20 rules projects here!

To me, the advantage is greater customization. With 3e's multiclassing system it's easy to take a few levels of an appropriate spellcasting class to make a paladin or ranger with spells, especially as I've removed xp penalties. It seems that giving some classes limited spellcasting is an...

A few house rules for Castles and Crusades

I read through your rules, but since I haven't got C&C I can't really comment on them (as I can't see how they differ or what they're supposed to fix). But they made me think of one thing: Does C&C have any kind of touch AC and touch attacks, or did you add those as part of your house rules?

    Druid character -- need advice

In that situation you won't get another AoO when someone closes with you again. Not if they only need a 5 foot step to do so.

Lets put together all our lite-d20 rules projects here!

I've been working on something like this for a while now. As such I'm interested in C&C as well, but not because I have any hopes that it'll do what I want, but because I hope I can mine it for ideas on how to handle specific issues. My personal goal is a slimmed down version of 3x that mixes...

Man, I love my players (my players stay out) =P

Great write-up! Background stories are all well and good, but a detailed roleplaying description like the one he gave you, would make my day as a DM as well. Plus, if I were the player of that character, I'd be itching to get a chance to actually play all that stuff out :)

Is Precise Strike a feat? If so, where's it from?

D&D simplified: Do you really need Touch AC's?

Yes, that does make sense - but it's not really an issue for me, as I'm planning to use opposed attack rolls for grapple checks (as well as for the rest of the special combat moves, like mentioned in my first post. Shocking Grasp was actually one of the things that I had thought about prior to...

Dex bonus on ranged touch attacks?

So far, I've played it so touch attacks get a bonus from Str and so that ranged touch attacks get a bonus from Dex, as I feel it makes sense this way. But it just struck me that I don't recall seing a rule on this. Have I been doing it right, and if so, where's the rule?

D&D simplified: Do you really need Touch AC's?

Even if spells that require an attack roll use the mechanic of d20 +caster level +casting stat modifier?

Castles & Crusades (box set) playtest report

Really? You've never seen a player - who you knew to be capable of being charming and glib of tongue - play a low Chr character as an either shy, silent type or as an annoying, abrasive type? An objective system? Yes. Does every type of game need an objective system? I don't believe so...

D&D simplified: Do you really need Touch AC's?

Good point! I hadn't thought about that, so I'll have to give it some thought. Thanks for bringing it up. That could propably be made to work, but I'm not a big fan of armor as DR in D&D's AC system. I've always been pretty satisfied with the abstraction of the AC system, where a high Dex as...

Castles & Crusades (box set) playtest report

No, I don't. And unless you have trouble differentiating between what can be solved through roleplaying and what should be left to the rules, I don't see why you would. I wasn't really talking about 'self improvement' as much as about simply getting better at playing the game. Which, IMO, is...

Castles & Crusades (box set) playtest report

Where's the balance in playing poker against a better card player? Why is it inherently 'bad' to cultivate better roleplaying through the requirement of actually roleplaying roleplay situations? Besides, a fair DM wil reward the effort as well as the actual words said, and in time even the shy...

D&D simplified: Do you really need Touch AC's?

No stone will be left untouched :) The goal is a system that mixes the cooler stuff of 3.x - some feats, some unified mechanics - with the less stringent rules of previous editions. Please note that this is not a critisism of 3.x, as I believe it's a solid system for what it tries to do...

D&D simplified: Do you really need Touch AC's?

Like I said, I'm changing a lot of stuff and most of it might look like I'm creating complexity elsewhere instead. Since most 3.x rules are extremely interdependent, all these changes will look this way when you address the things that need to be changed along with them, but since these things...

Critical stacking and feats - balanced? (Math-fu needed)

Also, in such a case (where a crit only multiplies the weapon's damage dice) I guess you could lessen the prereq of Improved Critical to BAB +6 without creating any balance issues? Still considering the same scenario, would Improved Critical still be worth a feat? (Regardless of whether it...

Does the same hold true if a crit only multiplies the weapon's damage dice?

Critical stacking and feats - balanced? (Math-fu needed)

Would you math savy guys comment on this? How does an increased multiplier compare to an increased threat range? AFAIK, the doubling of threat ranges is pretty balanced for weapons of different threat ranges. Does the same hold true if you merely add 1 to the multiplier instead? Or does it...

D&D simplified: Do you really need Touch AC's?

I can certainly understand where you're comming from, but I feel that the opposite point could just as easily be made: Why wouldn't it be harder to hit someone in a full platemail and a large shield with your Inflict Critical Wounds, opposed to the naked guy beside him? Remember that earlier...

D&D simplified: Do you really need Touch AC's?

For my ongoing project of simplifying the D&D 3.x rules, I've come to AC's. Is the touch AC really needed? For special combat moves like Grapple and Trip, I plan to just use opposed attack rolls so I don't think I'll need touch AC's here. For spells, I can easily envision how armor and...
