D&D 5E [GUIDE] Into the Woods We Go: The Ranger Guide

Well, you know, "He that fights and runs away..." and all that; Zephyr strike makes you really mobile. The archetype, in my mind, is very gish-y and the spell furthers that image. Maybe later I'll take Magic Initiate for the SCAG cantrips and possibly Find Familar.

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Into the Woods We Go: The Ranger Guide

I just made a sword-and-board Horizon Walker character to play in a campaign that starts in a couple of weeks; level 3. I really, really like the archetype, it's so... evocative. I'm going to be using Zephyr Strike, Goodberry and Absorb Elements as my level 1 spells. We'll see how it goes.

D&D 5E Paladin: Why Are They Often Considered Highly Powerful?

I wouldn't go so far as calling it OP, but it most definitely is in the running for best-designed class, in terms of both effectiveness and mechanical verisimilitude. It contributes meaningfully in all three pillars of the game. In combat it has top tier burst damage, reliable DPR, and among the...

Why wouldn't it be punk? I mean, it's definitely not steampunk (that's purely aestetic). However, the "punk" assumptions you see in cyberpunk are there: overarching corporate power (dragonmarked houses), man-made sentient beings searching for a sense of being (warforged), the seedy underbellies...

D&D 5E Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

14 pages in and no mention of Kubo? My take on it is that magic has been viewed throughout various parts of human history as having its own innate magic and being a way of unraveling the mysteries of the cosmos (think Pythagoras and the music of the spheres). As such, in a world that is...

New UA Paladin Sacred Oaths are Oath of Conquest and the Oath of Treachery

Am I the only one getting a Khorne Berserker/Sorcerer of Tzeentch vibe from this article?

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana and Necrotic Undead hunting.

The Eberron druid eco-terrorists would be the Ashbound... The Children of Winter are the death obsessed nihilists... to quote: I think it fits pretty well.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Druid Circles And Wild Shape

I get the distinct feeling that the Circles of Dreams and Twilight are eventually going to be called Greensingers and Children of Winter respectively... (Really like the overall initial feel to the mechanics, but definitely have to get tweaked).

D&D 5E What will the final revised Ranger look like

I expect it to look pretty much like the UA version with the level 1 features spread out to levels 3 and/or 6 (if taken by itself the Ranger isn't more powerful than any other class, but was is so front-loade that it creates multiclassing issues). I loved the new Ranger and its mechanical...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Revenant Subrace, Monster Hunter, and Inquisitive

Looking at the Revenant as a concept for cross-race subraces, I'm thinking that that would be a good way of implementing dragonmarks in Eberron. Not as clunky as giving clear mechanical abilities with a background, while allowing dragonmarked characters starting at level 1. You could have a few...

D&D 5E 5th edition Ranger: Why does every class have to have it's own schtick?

Agreed. The issue I have with those abilities is that when you get them at levels 10/14, the rogue is getting an extra ASI/Blindsense (while already having Bonus Action Hide since level 2), the Sorcerer gets Metamagic/ Flight, etc. You could give both abilities at the same level as part of some...

Ranger - House Rules (Feedback Requested!)

I completely agree with that; paladin and fighter get considerably better combat abilities while the Ranger gets better exploration abilities. But how would you quantify it? The DMG and PHB guidelines for exploration are pretty open and exploration challenges will have very high variance between...

Ranger - House Rules (Feedback Requested!)

Agreed; I also made Hunter's Mark a Class Feature, but using spell slots (each higher spell slot increasing the duration) to keep resource management similar to the Paladin's. What I did tweak, though, was to increase damage to 1d8 vs Favored Enemies. Now I don't think that Rangers need DPR...

D&D 5E 5th edition Ranger: Why does every class have to have it's own schtick?

I think the UA Deep Stalker's level 3 ability is great for that: free attack when ambushing an enemy. As for stealth abilities, I've been toying with the idea of giving (at high level, of course) an invisibility-like benefit while in a favored terrain (the idea being guerrillas have the...
