D&D 5E I'd like to see Next do away with racial stat mods for PC races.

Racial stat mods do make for homogenized PC's, so I think it good to toss them, but I wouldn't expect 5E to do that, or even present as optional.

D&D 5E Opinion poll: Once D&D Next is out, how do you think it will do? (based on what we have so far)

I voted average as well, although, average for D&D is not an average RPG. I certainly don't hope it tanks, and I will purchase supplements if not tied to the game's "innovations". My overall hope is that the hobby, and RPG publishing, grows and stays strong. There is nothing like a good RPG...

Ernie Gygax's Hobby Shop Dungeon - The Adventure Begins!

Definitely a big selling point for issue 3, I look forward to it. A Tomb adventure by a guy named Gygax....get your 10' poles, people. You are going to need them.... : )

    D&D 5E "Damage on a miss" poll.

I hope he kills it with a two-handed sword, and mounts its head on a pointy stick as a warning. But then, I'm an optimist.

    Ends justifying the means

it is true that male animals - which humans are - exhibit a protective behavior. I think you and others are looking for an absolute truth here that doesn't exist. What I have outlined is a part of it. In your case, yes. And, maybe loosen the helmet a bit. Increasing mating chances is where...

Evolution of Rules, is it really a good thing or not?

the singing of another's song doesn't take away its creator's right to ownership of it. It's a sad thing when it happens in any of the publishing businesses. It happened to D&D long ago, before some gamers were even born, but it's still important to recognize, especially when said authors...

Evolution of Rules, is it really a good thing or not?

Ah, no of course not, all the subsequent designers' work speaks for itself - I mean that with no tongue in cheek - but, it's not their baby - And yes, the grabbing for the D&D brand, and Gary losing it, was the work of greed, among other things, none of them particularly nice. Creative...

D&D 5E Blow Torch Vs Scalpel: Neogrognardism 101.

The blowtorch blows. I have no interest in 4E , but why should it be torched? Is it not a good game that people are having a blast with? And spend money on? I think 3E, 4E, and one day 5E, are eventually victims of being named D&D (which none of them are). All of these systems are...

    OSR A Modern D&D Hybrid? OSR+ 3.X

love that system as well, am using it in my AD&D campaign, along with some streamlined weapon vs. armor type - I think the OP's description also crosses paths with C&C. My feeling at this point is, if I were to look at writing a Sword & Sorcery RPG, I would try to start with as blank a...

    Faerie Fire inside Darkness?

This calls for a new, more potent version of Faerie Fire, complete with awesome 80's reference : Rainbow in the Dark

Evolution of Rules, is it really a good thing or not?

Indeed I do. I am a creative artist. For me, it is a matter of authenticity, as well as the application of a ruleset. Dungeons & Dragons was designed and written by Arneson & Gygax. They are the authors of the game, and everything that follows is a different game by different authors, called...

How involved are you in D&D's "metaplot"?

I think that things like "The Sundering" are tapping historical and mythological roots. Whatever it means in a WotC product, I've no idea. I seem to recall the term comes up in The Silmarillion. But no metaplot for me. For D&D I prefer a sandbox. I did enjoy the metaplot for the early Rifts...

    Ends justifying the means

i have addressed this more than once, again, truth is not point A disproving point B, it is an organic thing. Lemming syndrome is a powerful factor, Cover Your Ass syndrome is in every corporation (and military) I am saying that, in nature, as in humans, we have a stark contradiction...

Make Your Case: Monk & Bard

I see the Monk as similar. A lot of Clerics would have been Monks before adventuring. A Cleric or Paladin that tells stories by the fire, and carries a horn they blast going into battle, has Bardic potential. I disagree with, say, 5 levels fighter, 5 thief, 1 druid and presto! You're a Bard...

Make Your Case: Monk & Bard

Medieval monks are not adventurers, so I agree with Gary Gygax that the kung fu monk is the archetype, belonging mostly in eastern settings. the Bards, I too lean towards the Celtic tones. Have you considered making it more of an extra-class association, in other words, available to any class...

    Ends justifying the means

The facts here speak for themselves, and the evidence, which you would prefer to ignore, is overwhelming. I am not here to teach you or convince you, its not my job. Feminists I know agree with me. There is an animal nature at work, that has a complex relation to cultural biases, but is not the...

    D&D 5E L&L for November 18

From the article: Meaning what? They're not really comparable to begin with. But it does smell of false "balance".

D&D 5E Obvious Attack Cantrips That Should Exist

certainly not trolling, as it was sincere. Edition warring, well...no, but I am glad you asked. I am expressing a real hate of certain directions in what is called D&D, yes, and the worst of it comes up in the tactical minis game we call 4E. But I don't hate that game unto itself, nor its...
