Characters In Games You've played in...

The game I'm running right now in my psionic homebrew has the following characters: First group - Megidol Warlock 3 (Megidol: think central/western europeans with human-like racial stats) - Dojif Psychic Warrior 2 (Dojif: think very large inuit/northwest amero-indians with half-giant-like...

Dungeons & Dragons Lite: Am I the Only One?

You may have seen them, but have you really read them? Most of them use absolutely blatant rules abuses and combos which simply cannot exist (dipping resources from Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and Greyhawk with equal fervor) or do not form an actually playable character (the hulking hurler is a...

Dungeons & Dragons Lite: Am I the Only One?

If two books per month are somehow equivalent to six books a month. Nope. I've never seen the legendary "25th level half-gelatinous cube/half-stone golem paladin" or other such nonsense that people tell me is apparently epidemic these days. Nah, there's plenty of folks like you. Find the game...

    Most useless book ever?

Probably my extra copy of BESM 2E. I went to a game with one copy and some how came back with two in my bag. I love that book to death, but now one copy just collects dust on the shelf.

    What do you usually play?

Mostly 3.5, though I'd like to give Iron Heroes, True 20, Arcana Evolved, and Mutants & Masterminds 2E a go at some point. I also play in on-again off-again Modern games on the side.

    3.5 Missing Link

Because if you give any thought to the mechanical aspect of the game, you're a bad roleplayer. Makes perfect sense. Clearly there's no chance that someone who enjoys the mechanical aspects of the game could be as good a roleplayer as you are.

    Lots more adventures from Wizards?

Ugh. Adventures are about the only thing I don't want at this point. I'd be much happier if they were putting out site-based books like the Scarred Lands books (Hollowfaust, Mithril, etc.) than putting out adventure modules. I'm certainly glad that other folks'll get some use out of them, but...

So in '06 you'll be buying...

Of the 2006 WotC stuff announced so far, Complete Psionic is the only one I'm drooling over. Since it's an April release, I'll probably hold out until May and make it a graduation present for myself. Player's Guide to Eberron and Races of the Dragon are maybes, when I find out more.

    Multiclassing

If the player and the DM agree that it makes sense for the character, I could care less how many classes a character has. I routinely use upwards of 4-5 classes to get the mechanics I want for my character, and if that's what it takes for my players, that's fine too.

    Rogues getting Cleric style loving?

I dumped trapsense as a rogue ability when I gave the class a once-over for my games. It's silly, arbitrary, and a throwback to the old days when the thief was in the dungeon exclusively to disarm traps. Anybody can disarm traps if they spend the skill points on disable device. Instead of...

How important do you think game balance is?

In the game system, it's extremely important that options be balanced. In my group, I always strive towards balance in any options I create, but I never seek balance at the cost of having a good time at the table.

    A different kind of campaign...

Thought about it. Worked on it. Did it. Result is in my sig. The end result is buckets of fun, though for the moment I'm utilizing warlocks and invoking hexblades in place of incarnum (only had brief exposure to incarnum so far). The only thing still being tinkered with mechanically is what...

Have you become disillusioned with 3rd edition?

I'm not disillusioned by a long shot, but that doesn't mean I won't tinker.

    Holidays in your world(s)

Rose Petals of Málaga and the Feast of Roses The city of Málaga in the old empire was renown for the Feast of Roses, a summertime celebration of the bounty given to the Faithful by Glorious Xialton after the first harvest. The celebration begins when rose petals are dropped onto the city from...

Am I the only one who thinks Incarnum is hokey?

If you like the mechanics, then ditch the pre-packaged flavor and use 'em. If not, don't bother. I for one plan on getting this book and completely gutting the idea of visible "soulmelds" and using it as the basis for spirit-channelers. Same mechanics, new flavor. I could care less what sort of...

    Opinions on the non-PHB races?

I dig most of the Eberron races (the warforged are the ones I'm ambivilent towards). I also like the goliaths from Races of Stone quite a bit, and have used the races from the Expanded Psionics Handbook as the mechanical basis for the races in my purely psionic homebrew.

3e, DMs, and Inferred Player Power

Much obliged, RC. More or less. I prefer to tell my players that if they want to use a certain character option, all they need to do is talk to me about it. Nothing is allowed outside the core rules without my okay, but I stress that I am definitely open to outside suppliments if they want to...

3e, DMs, and Inferred Player Power

I think the only way we could really clarify this would be to get some hard data at this point, since it looks like otherwise the only option is oposing experiences until we're blue in the face. I tend to disagree with this in my experience. A seperate thread for it would probably be most...

3e, DMs, and Inferred Player Power

Would you like me to list the other seven DMs I've played under and then explain to you why only one of them really knew what he was doing? And I would've happily walked out on these guys right away, but in most cases, they had the only game in town at the time. I was fed the line for three...

3e, DMs, and Inferred Player Power

So you can make sweeping generalizations that players "these days" try to undermine the DM, while my own experiences with poor DMs are "BS"? Have you ever played with the Psycho Dwarf who quite literally told his players that it's well within the DM's rights to kill off a character he decides he...
