I think the rules need to be extremely well balanced. Everything has to work to maintain that neither players nor DM's get a silly upperhand over the other. WotC started off making sure everything is balanced but from what I have read its clear that now thats not the case. And don't even get me started on third party publishers.

Cyberzombie -- A quick offtopic question? I remember sometime back that you were looking for some advice on implementing some of the stunts from Exalted into D&D? How did that work out?

A quick offtopic answer! ;)

Due to one problem after another (today was supposed to be a game day) we haven't gotten to play much yet. So far, we're just in the introductory stuff, so they haven't gotten into a fight yet. I'll let you know, though, when we get into it. :)

I voted "somewhat" but I'd like an option between "somewhat" and "not very."

I know. It's a poll tactic I picked up from online poltical quizzes. No fence sitting! You have to pick one way or the other. :)

Now I'm going to take exception to that. I'd say the "major" third party publishers -- such as Monte, Green Ronin, and Fantasy Flight -- do a much BETTER job of keeping track of balance than WotC does. Especially after the horror stories I've heard connected to Vow of Poverty.

Problem with that, is there are some people for whom an honest answer really is exactly in the middle...

I voted "Somewhat important" by mistake; I thought you meant in our campaigns, not the game itself. I think it's extremely important in the game.

its hard to beat with anything that should be thrown at a 1st lvl party.
Well, the fact that it sounds like you've pulled one over on your DM is probably to blame. By my count you've ended up with 5 feats at first level...

In the game system, it's extremely important that options be balanced. In my group, I always strive towards balance in any options I create, but I never seek balance at the cost of having a good time at the table.
